Primary Responsibilities
Confidential Client is seeking a Staff Accountant to support project-level accounting for utility-scale renewable energy projects. The role focuses on accurate general ledger maintenance, monthly balance sheet reconciliations, journal entry preparation, financial analysis, and support for monthly/quarterly/annual close processes.
- Support accounting and financial reporting for multiple wind, solar, storage, and other renewable energy projects
- Prepare and post monthly journal entries for revenue, operating expenses, prepaid and accrued items, intercompany activity, fixed assets, debt, and cash transactions
- Prepare entries affecting balance sheet and related income/expense accounts; ensure accurate period recording
- Prepare and maintain monthly balance sheet reconciliations (cash, AR, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, AP, accrued liabilities, debt, intercompany, and other assigned GL accounts)
- Research and resolve reconciling items, account discrepancies, unusual balances, and aged transactions promptly
- Analyze monthly P&L (budget-to-actual, prior-period comparisons, trend analysis) and investigate unusual fluctuations
- Review GL activity for accuracy, completeness, proper coding, and compliance with internal policies and U.S. GAAP
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes and prepare supporting schedules to meet deadlines
- Assist in preparing project-level financial statements and internal reporting packages
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations and assist with cash monitoring for projects
- Maintain supporting documentation for journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reports
- Provide documentation and explanations for internal and external audits
- Support accounting system implementations, process improvements, and data validation
- Follow internal controls and accounting procedures and suggest improvements to accuracy and efficiency
- Perform other accounting and financial analysis tasks as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
- 1–3 years of general ledger, corporate, public, or project accounting experience preferred
- Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and fundamental accounting principles
- Experience preparing journal entries and completing balance sheet reconciliations
- Experience analyzing income statements, identifying trends, and researching variances
- Understanding of the relationship between balance sheet and income statement activity
- Experience supporting monthly, quarterly, or annual financial close processes
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to research and resolve discrepancies
- High level of accuracy, attention to detail, organization, and accountability
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet simultaneous deadlines
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially advanced Excel skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with accounting and cross-functional teams
- Proactive, hands-on team player who is willing to learn and adapt in a dynamic environment
- Interest in renewable energy and project-based accounting is preferred

Compensation & Benefits
- Estimated base: $59,577 per year (estimated)
- Base and bonus commensurate with experience
