The Sr. Staff UX Designer at Confidential Client leads the design and development of next-generation public safety applications, driving product strategy and ensuring design consistency across the product suite. Role Overview
Confidential Client (via Careertakes) is seeking a Sr. Staff UX Designer to lead UX strategy and design for enterprise public-safety applications. You will shape product vision across suites, evolve design systems, lead research and partnerships, and mentor other designers. This is a full-time role based in Illinois (IL) with telecommuting permitted 2–3 days per week.
What You’ll Do
- Design and evolve next-generation public-safety and mission-critical applications, focusing on clarity, performance, and operational resiliency.
- Define high-level research plans and a “North Star” experience vision to align stakeholders and product strategy.
- Architect cross-product requirements, prioritize features with leadership, and ensure solutions scale across the product ecosystem.
- Partner closely with the Design System team to grow reusable components and guidelines that ensure suite-wide consistency.
- Coach and mentor designers; lead design reviews that drive measurable outcomes and product quality.
- Influence product decisions by translating UX impacts into business and technical tradeoffs.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (product management, engineering, research) to deliver shipped outcomes.
- Work on-site in Illinois with flexibility to telecommute 2–3 days per week.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a relevant field (Design, HCI, Human Factors, etc.) plus at least 1 year of related experience — or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated experience leading UX strategy and complex product design across multiple product areas.
- Strong portfolio showing UX leadership, product thinking, design systems contributions, and outcomes (measurable impact).
- Proven experience conducting and applying user research to guide strategic decisions.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
- Experience mentoring or managing other designers.
Nice to Have
- Experience in public safety, telecommunications, or mission-critical systems.
- Background working on large-scale design systems and cross-product UI consistency.
- Familiarity with accessibility best practices and designing for high-stress operational contexts.
Compensation & Benefits
- Target base salary range: $82,056 to $150,000 USD (base pay varies with experience and qualifications).
- Benefits include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with company match, incentive bonus plans, paid holidays, generous PTO, employee stock purchase plan, and paid parental & family leave.
- Consistent with pay-transparency laws, the posted range reflects the employer’s target pay for this role in Illinois. Final offers will depend on experience and skills.
Work Location & Schedule
- Location: Illinois (in-person presence expected with partial telecommute).
- Telecommuting permitted 2–3 days per week.
