Position Overview
Confidential Client (a state agency partner in the IT sector) is seeking an entry-level Sr. Security Analyst for a W2 contract engagement. The role focuses on strengthening the organization's security posture through threat intelligence, threat hunting, incident response, log analysis, vulnerability management, and security automation. This position is onsite in Five Points, SC and requires availability for Saturday and Sunday evening shifts after training. Duration: 12+ months. Compensation: $20.00 per hour (W2 Contract).
What You’ll Do
- Monitor and analyze threat intelligence feeds to identify emerging threats relevant to the organization.
- Use OSINT tools and document findings to inform the security team.
- Conduct proactive threat-hunting searches across network and endpoint telemetry using playbooks and provided tools.
- Collaborate with senior analysts to create, test, and refine detection rules (SIEM queries, Defender for Endpoint rules, etc.).
- Review and interpret logs from firewalls, endpoints, and servers to identify indicators of compromise (IOCs).
- Assist in initial incident triage and follow established frameworks (e.g., NIST, MITRE ATT&CK).
- Gather and analyze evidence (logs, alerts) to determine incident scope and severity; contribute to containment and remediation.
- Produce clear documentation: incident reports, after-action reviews, and operational guides.
- Support vulnerability management by analyzing findings and prioritizing remediation efforts following NIST best practices.
- Leverage SCCM, Group Policy, PowerShell, and other automation to streamline patching and repetitive tasks.
- Configure and monitor endpoint protection and work with network devices and firewalls to reduce risk.
- Perform basic digital forensics and grow knowledge of cloud-specific security solutions as cloud adoption increases.
Minimum Qualifications
- 1+ year of experience in an IT security–focused role or 1+ years server/network administration (or equivalent training).
- Basic understanding of security concepts and processes, and basic computer and network concepts.
- Familiarity with SIEM and endpoint security tools (or willingness to learn quickly).
- Practical experience or exposure to PowerShell, Group Policy (GPO), SCCM, and endpoint management.
- Strong written and verbal communication and documentation skills.
- Mandatory: availability for Saturday and Sunday evening shifts after training.
- Authorization to work in the United States is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field (preferred but not strictly required).
- Hands-on experience with threat hunting, detection engineering, or SOC operations.
- Experience with vulnerability management programs and cloud security concepts.
- Experience writing detection rules and SIEM queries.
- Comfortable working on a mid-size team and escalating appropriately.
