The Senior P&C Data Scientist at Confidential Client leads the development and enhancement of analytical models to support pricing, underwriting, and portfolio management decisions within the Property & Casualty insurance domain. This role requires applying advanced statistical and machine learning techniques to large insurance datasets, collaborating cross-functionally, and mentoring junior team members to drive profitable growth and improve pricing analytics capabilities. The position is onsite in Omaha and involves end-to-end ownership of model lifecycle and business impact communication.

Role Overview
The Sr. P&C Data Scientist will lead the development, validation, and deployment of analytical models that inform pricing, underwriting, and portfolio decisions for a Confidential Client in the insurance industry. This is an onsite role based in Omaha, NE. You will partner closely with pricing actuaries, underwriters, claims, product, distribution, and IT to translate business needs into robust, well-governed models and actionable insights.
What You’ll Do
- Develop, refine, and maintain pricing-focused analytics and models (frequency, severity, pure premium, risk segmentation, persistency, portfolio optimization).
- Own end-to-end model lifecycle: data exploration, feature engineering, model building, validation, implementation, monitoring, and enhancement.
- Apply P&C insurance domain knowledge (coverages, exposures, underwriting rules, regulatory constraints) to model design and interpretation.
- Select modeling techniques that balance predictive performance, interpretability, stability, and regulatory requirements (GLMs, tree-based methods, gradient boosting, etc.).
- Design and execute validation frameworks to assess performance, stability, and business impact.
- Implement models and analytical outputs into pricing workflows and reporting pipelines.
- Mentor and coach junior data scientists (P&C Data Scientist I/II), perform code reviews, and contribute to analytical standards and reusable frameworks.
- Communicate findings clearly to business partners and senior leadership—translate technical results into actionable recommendations and data-driven narratives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, computer science, data science, or related quantitative field.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in data science, analytics, pricing, actuarial, or similar quantitative roles (a master’s may substitute for 1–2 years).
- Advanced proficiency with SQL and analytical programming (Python or R).
- Experience working with large, structured and semi-structured datasets; practical application of statistical and machine learning methods.
- Strong analytical judgment, problem-solving capability, and clear written/verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and own complex analytical models from development through monitoring.
Preferred Qualifications
- Deep experience in Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance pricing, ratemaking, underwriting analytics, or actuarial support.
- Practical knowledge of GLMs, tree-based models, gradient boosting, and their application to pricing.
- Familiarity with regulatory and model governance considerations for insurance pricing and underwriting.
- Experience implementing and monitoring models in production/business workflows.
- Proven mentorship and technical leadership experience.

Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary will be commensurate with experience for hires in this geographic area; ranges for other locations may differ.
