What You’ll Do
Confidential Client is seeking a Sr Advanced Software Engineer - Android OS Architect to join a contract engagement focused on Android OS and platform engineering. You will own system-level design and implementation for Android-based products, working closely with hardware and cross-functional teams to deliver stable, high-performance platforms.
- Design, develop, and maintain Android OS architecture components, including system services, framework modules, and kernel interfaces.
- Lead evaluation and integration of new Android features, frameworks, and AOSP patches to meet product requirements.
- Optimize system performance, memory usage, and power efficiency across device configurations.
- Collaborate with hardware, firmware, and integration teams to ensure device compatibility and validate platform changes.
- Troubleshoot and resolve critical system-level issues (crashes, boot problems, performance regressions) using system and kernel debugging tools.
- Define and enforce coding standards, architectural guidelines, and best practices for OS-level development.
- Mentor junior engineers, run design/code reviews, and contribute to technical roadmaps.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 7+ years of professional experience in Android OS development or related system-level programming roles.
- Deep knowledge of Android framework internals (Binder IPC, SurfaceFlinger, Android Runtime) and AOSP.
- Strong C/C++ skills; experience with Java/Kotlin and Android NDK for low-level work.
- Solid understanding of Linux kernel internals, device drivers, and platform bring-up.
- Experience with Android build systems, AOSP customization, and platform integration.
- Proven ability to profile and optimize system performance, memory, and power consumption.
- Strong debugging skills with familiarity using tools like adb, kernel logs, systrace, perf, gdb/lldb.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills for cross-functional work.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have
- Prior experience on embedded or consumer device platforms (telecom, automotive, IoT).
- Contributions to AOSP or Linux upstream projects.
- Experience with automated testing frameworks for platform validation.
- Familiarity with BSP (board support package) workflows and vendor HALs.
