Overview

Confidential Client is seeking a Specimen Management Associate 2 to support laboratory specimen receipt, accessioning, storage, shipment, and inventory processes at their Saugus, CA site. This full-time role focuses on accurate sample handling, maintaining freezer systems and records, supporting quality and safety initiatives, and mentoring entry-level team members.


What You’ll Do

  • Accession, label, sort, store, and ship clinical specimens accurately and according to process
  • Maintain freezer systems and specimen inventories; update storage records promptly
  • Monitor specimens and processes, identify potential issues, and escalate when appropriate
  • Guide and train entry-level staff on routine specimen management procedures
  • Respond to after-hours alarms or critical operational events as needed
  • Support safety, quality, and 6S (sort, set-in-order, shine, standardize, sustain + safety) initiatives
  • Track supplies and communicate shortages to supervisors or stakeholders
  • Maintain clear, accurate, and timely communication with cross-functional teams

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; some CAP/CLIA locations may require a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology
  • 6 months of related specimen handling or laboratory experience preferred
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with internal lab systems and inventory tools
  • Knowledge of specimen accessioning, storage, inventory management, and shipment procedures
  • Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy when handling biological samples
  • Ability to maintain effective reporting procedures and control workflow
  • Effective verbal and written communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with coworkers, managers, and clients
  • Working knowledge of laboratory specimen management best practices and safety procedures

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Frequent standing and walking; occasional sitting
  • Close visual work (computer use, reading small print)
  • Occasional exposure to cold temperatures depending on assigned work area

Compensation & Benefits

  • Employment type: Full-time
  • Potential base pay range (when annualized): $35,900 - $74,800 (Confidential Client). Actual pay will depend on experience, qualifications, location, and schedule. Additional incentives, bonuses, or benefits may apply.
