Job Overview

Confidential client is seeking a full-time Staff Special Education Teacher to support students at North Haven High School. Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:15 AM – 2:20 PM. In this role you will design and deliver differentiated instruction, develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), evaluate and document student progress, and collaborate with related-services staff to meet students’ academic and behavioral needs.

What You’ll Do

• Develop, modify and implement lesson plans that meet individual student needs
• Write, implement and monitor IEPs and related documentation
• Conduct student evaluations and track academic and behavioral progress
• Implement behavior-management strategies and supports
• Collaborate with general-education teachers, therapists, and related-services staff
• Attend and actively participate in meetings (IEP meetings, team meetings, parent conferences)
• Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times

Qualifications

• Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher)
  • At least 3 months of related teaching experience (student teaching, internships, or practicum accepted)
  • Valid Connecticut special education certificate (state certification required)
  • Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills
• Preferred:
  • Experience working with students across a wide range of disabilities
  • Experience developing and implementing IEPs and behavior intervention plans

Physical & Other Requirements

• Must have adequate visual and hearing acuity
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform prolonged walking, standing, bending, kneeling, reaching and twisting
• May be required to reposition students and move equipment without assistance
• Possible exposure to allergens, blood, bodily fluids and infectious diseases
• Must be 18 years or older
• Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English
• Must adhere to confidentiality standards and professional boundaries
