About the Role

Confidential Client is hiring an early-career Space Orbital Software Engineer to help design, build, and deploy on-orbit software for mission-critical space systems. You'll work on end-to-end orbital software capabilities that integrate with larger command-and-control platforms, payloads, and bus/networking solutions in proliferated satellite constellations.

What You’ll Do

• Contribute code and architecture for on-orbit spacecraft operations and mission management software
• Build modular software capabilities that integrate with multi-domain systems and legacy defense infrastructure
• Implement algorithms and data structures for real-time orbital tasks and autonomy features
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan, build, test, and field mission capabilities on operational timelines
• Create and analyze metrics for debugging, monitoring, and reliability engineering
• Triage issues, perform root-cause analysis, and coordinate remediation steps
• Partner with end users and operators to translate mission needs into usable features

Required Qualifications

• Recently completed a Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software/Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field
• Able to start full time in 2026
• Familiarity with algorithms, data structures, storage systems, cloud infrastructure, and front-end frameworks
• Proficiency in one or more of: C++, Go, Rust, Python
• A strong desire to work on software with real-world impact in the space domain
• Bias for action and natural curiosity about technologies and tools
• Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with spacecraft software systems or spacecraft operations
• Experience with satellite mission autonomy (including fault isolation and recovery)
• Familiarity with deployment tooling such as Kubernetes, OpenShift, or Helm
• Low-ego, high-ownership mindset and mission orientation
• Prior experience shipping software that operated in constrained or real-time environments

Salary & Benefits

• US Salary Range: $132,000—$149,000 USD (base salary estimate)
• The range is an estimate based on multiple compensation factors (experience, education, skills, market conditions). Actual offers may vary. Many full-time offers include competitive equity grants and a comprehensive benefits package.
