Overview
This is an entry-level Software/Firmware Test Engineer contract role supporting industrial automation product development in Johnson City, TN. The initial assignment is onsite with an eventual hybrid schedule possible. This position pays $29.00 per hour (W2). The engagement is a contract (initial term one year) with a possibility of conversion to permanent employment.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute functional tests for industrial automation products and firmware.
- Collaborate with engineers and cross-functional team members to analyze requirements and define test cases.
- Evaluate requirement testability and provide actionable feedback.
- Identify potential technical issues or design flaws and report defects clearly.
- Communicate and coordinate test results and issues with developers, support staff, technical writers, project managers, and QA personnel.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
- Experience with industrial automation and motion systems; familiarity with motion controls and I/O is a strong plus.
- Proficiency in C# and a willingness to learn new tools and frameworks.
- Knowledge of testing firmware for embedded runtime environments.
- Strong attention to detail and a solid work ethic.
- Self-motivated with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
Nice-to-Have (Preferred)
- Hands-on experience with test automation frameworks or scripting.
- Familiarity with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing, device communication protocols, or test lab tooling.
- Prior exposure to version control (Git) and issue tracking systems (e.g., Jira).
Compensation & Employment Details
- Pay Rate: $29.00 per hour (W2).
- Employment type: Contract (initial one-year contract; conversion to perm possible).
- Note: This role is not open to Corp-to-Corp (C2C). No visa sponsorship or transfer is provided. Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. now and in the future.
Work Location
- Johnson City, TN — Onsite at start, transitioning to hybrid as the project allows.
