Role Overview
Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Software Security Engineer to support Secure Product Development across engineering teams. This is an early-career role well suited for a recent graduate or engineer with foundational software skills who wants to specialize in application security, tooling, automation, and vulnerability management.
Pay range: $63,900 — $118,700 per year. This role is also eligible for bonus as part of the total compensation package.
This position requires adherence to U.S. government export control regulations (ITAR/EAR) — continued employment may be contingent on obtaining required government authorizations.
What You’ll Do
- Assist with implementing and maintaining secure development standards and best practices.
- Help identify, triage, and track remediation for software vulnerabilities.
- Contribute to integration, tuning, and administration of security tools (SAST, SCA, DAST, secrets scanning, etc.).
- Provide security guidance and onboarding support to product and software engineering teams.
- Participate in and help lead threat modeling sessions (STRIDE, DREAD) to identify and prioritize risks.
- Develop and maintain automation and scripting (Python, Bash, PowerShell) to streamline security workflows.
- Build small internal tools or utilities to increase engineering productivity and security visibility.
- Support documentation of security processes, operational runbooks, and tool usage.
- Collaborate with DevOps, IT, and engineering teams to promote secure-by-design practices.
- Participate in security incident response activities as needed and stay current on emerging threats and defensive techniques.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Security, or a related technical field.
- Familiarity with one or more scripting languages (Python, Bash, PowerShell).
- Working knowledge of Linux and/or Windows operating systems.
- Understanding of core cybersecurity concepts such as OWASP Top 10, SSDLC, and common vulnerability types.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to produce clear documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to learn new tools and technologies quickly.
Preferred Qualifications
- Coursework, internships, or hands-on projects in cybersecurity or application security.
- Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Familiarity with GitHub or similar version control systems.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, developer tooling, or build automation.
- Basic networking fundamentals and security protocols.
- Relevant certifications (Security+, GSEC, or similar) are a plus but not required.
