Overview

Software Quality Engineer I - Hybrid (East Irvine, CA)

Confidential client (IT) is seeking an entry-level Software Quality Assurance (SQA) Engineer to support software quality activities across the development lifecycle. This hybrid role (East Irvine, CA) focuses on quality reviews, traceability, audit readiness, corrective action tracking, KPI reporting, and support for automation and AI-enabled quality initiatives.

Location: East Irvine, CA (hybrid)

Compensation: $69,000 - $115,000 per year (range provided by the employer). Final offer may vary based on experience and location.


Responsibilities

  • Support SQA activities across the software development lifecycle in collaboration with engineering, systems, and program teams.
  • Assist with quality reviews, evidence preparation, traceability checks, and audit readiness tasks.
  • Maintain accurate, auditable quality records and objective evidence.
  • Help collect, analyze, and report KPI data and trends; support get-to-green plans and action tracking.
  • Participate in Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) activities and follow-through on effectiveness tracking.
  • Help develop or update procedures, work instructions, checklists, and other quality documentation.
  • Collaborate with global and offshore teams to standardize and scale SQA practices.
  • Support investigations, audits, and cross-functional projects as assigned.

AI & Automation Support

  • Identify opportunities to introduce automation, AI-enabled analysis, or data analytics to improve SQA workflows and audit readiness.
  • Assist in building, validating, or maintaining simple automation solutions, dashboards, scripts, or reporting tools.
  • Work with engineering and quality teams to integrate automation capabilities into enterprise workflows while preserving human oversight.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related technical field required.
  • Entry-level or early-career experience (0–2 years) in Software Quality Assurance, Quality Engineering, software testing, audit support, data analysis, scripting, or process improvement.
  • Coursework, internships, or project experience with software development lifecycles, testing, requirements, audit readiness, data analytics, or introductory AI concepts preferred.
  • Familiarity or interest in Agile/SAFe practices, AS9100, DO-178, root cause analysis, and software release processes is a plus.
  • Basic scripting or exposure to automation tooling, data reporting, or visualization tools is advantageous.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills; ability to work with cross-functional and global teams.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and able to manage multiple tasks and shifting priorities.
  • Must have valid authorization to work in the U.S.
