What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is seeking an Embedded AI / Computer Vision co-op to join an engineering team working on AI-enabled vision systems for mobile machines. In this role you will develop, deploy, profile, and optimize models and real-time pipelines for embedded targets.

  • Collaborate with software engineers to design and optimize embedded AI and computer vision applications for mobile machinery.
  • Deploy, benchmark, and optimize neural networks for on-target execution on embedded platforms (including hardware accelerators).
  • Improve real-time video processing and inference pipelines to increase throughput and reduce latency.
  • Profile and troubleshoot performance bottlenecks across image acquisition, preprocessing, inference, postprocessing, and video output.
  • Apply model optimization techniques such as quantization, pruning, and hardware-specific acceleration to improve inference efficiency.
  • Develop and optimize C/C++ software components for embedded Linux and real-time operating systems.
  • Integrate AI models with camera systems, sensors, and embedded communication interfaces (e.g., CAN, Ethernet).
  • Build testing and benchmarking tools to measure accuracy, latency, memory use, and end-to-end pipeline performance.
  • Document architecture, optimization strategies, performance results, and implementation details.
  • Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and team technical discussions.

What We’re Looking For

Minimum qualifications for this co-op:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Proficiency with C/C++ programming.
  • Fundamental understanding of embedded systems and software development.
  • Basic knowledge of artificial intelligence, machine learning, or computer vision concepts.
  • Familiarity with Linux development environments.
  • Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication and ability to work collaboratively in teams.

Nice-to-Haves (Preferred Qualifications)

The following skills will make you stand out:

  • Experience deploying AI or computer vision models on embedded hardware.
  • Familiarity with AI frameworks and deployment tools (PyTorch, TensorFlow, TensorFlow Lite, ONNX).
  • Experience with quantization, model compression, or hardware-specific inference acceleration.
  • Knowledge of embedded AI accelerators, GPUs, or NPUs (examples: TI TDA4 or similar).
  • Experience with real-time video frameworks (GStreamer, OpenCV) and embedded OS (Embedded Linux, QNX).
  • Experience with performance profiling tools for CPU/GPU/memory/system-level bottlenecks.
  • Background in image processing, object detection, or semantic segmentation models.
  • Experience with cross-compilation, hardware debugging, and on-target software development.

Additional Details

  • Employment type: FULL_TIME (Co-op / Intern level).
  • Location: Onsite in Fountain Inn, SC (Confidential Client site).
  • Term: Spring 2027 co-op period (dates to be confirmed with the hiring manager).
  • Work authorization: Must be authorized to work in the U.S. for the duration of employment; visa sponsorship is not available.
