What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is seeking a Software Engineer (back-end focused, full-stack-capable) to help build scalable, high-performance systems that power mission-critical applications. This role emphasizes server-side development, API design, microservices, and collaboration with front-end teams to deliver secure, reliable solutions.

• Develop and maintain server-side logic, APIs, microservices, and data workflows
• Design and implement secure, scalable REST APIs and integrations
• Contribute to system design decisions that optimize performance and scalability
• Collaborate with UI/front-end developers to ensure seamless end-to-end functionality
• Write clean, maintainable code with unit and integration tests, and keep documentation current
• Troubleshoot and resolve bugs, performance bottlenecks, and production incidents
• Provide on-call support as required

What We're Looking For (Minimum Qualifications)

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• 3+ years of professional software development experience with backend systems
• Strong experience building REST APIs and microservices
• Proficiency in at least one backend language and ecosystem (for example: Java, C#, Python, Go, or Node.js)
• Solid understanding of databases (relational and/or NoSQL), data modeling, and database performance tuning
• Familiarity with CI/CD, testing frameworks, and automated deployments
• Strong problem-solving, debugging, and communication skills
• Must be eligible for TS/SCI with polygraph and able to start with TS/SCI with polygraph required on Day 1

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience in Defense, Intelligence, or other federal/regulated environments
• Experience with containerization (Docker), orchestration (Kubernetes), and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
• Knowledge of secure coding practices, authentication/authorization (OAuth, SAML), and encryption
• Experience with observability tools (logging, tracing, metrics) and performance tuning at scale
• Familiarity with event-driven architectures, message queues, and streaming platforms

Salary & Benefits

• Salary range: $99,000 - $206,000 (USD per year). Final compensation is commensurate with experience, qualifications, and role responsibilities.
• Benefits include medical, vision, and dental insurance; 401(k); paid time off and holidays; and additional insurance options.
• Employment type: Full-time

Clearance & Location

• Clearance: TS/SCI with polygraph required Day 1. Candidates must already hold or be able to start under this clearance requirement.
• Location: Sterling, VA (on-site / local work as required by the contract)
• Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. and meet clearance eligibility requirements.
