What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Software Engineer, Security Engineering to help design, build, and operate security across autonomous-vehicle systems and supporting cloud/platform infrastructure. This is a hands-on engineering role that spans onboard (in-vehicle) security, platform/infrastructure security, and practical AI/LLM protections.

  • Implement and maintain onboard security controls: secure boot, code signing, secrets/key management, secure OTA updates, and system hardening.
  • Secure infrastructure and developer platforms: Kubernetes, AWS, CI/CD pipelines, and internal platform tooling.
  • Help assess and implement AI/LLM protections (e.g., defenses for prompt injection, data exfiltration, model supply-chain risks, and agent behavior).
  • Build identity and access management, least-privilege authorization, and fleet/device access controls.
  • Participate in threat modeling, security design reviews, and risk assessments; work with product and engineering teams to remediate issues.
  • Operate vulnerability management, dependency/supply-chain scanning, and SSDLC tooling.
  • Contribute to detection, logging, monitoring, and incident response for both onboard and cloud systems.
  • Improve security through automation, testing, documentation, and close collaboration with software, platform, and autonomy teams.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Cybersecurity, or equivalent practical experience, or relevant internships/projects.
  • 0–2 years of software engineering, security engineering, or related experience (internships, open-source projects, coursework welcome).
  • Programming experience in one or more languages such as Python, Go, Rust, C/C++, or JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • Foundational understanding of authentication/authorization, networking, operating systems, and common software security vulnerabilities.
  • Familiarity with Linux and cloud/distributed systems and a clear desire to learn how to secure production environments.
  • Authorized to work in the United States (Confidential Client will comply with applicable federal and state hiring laws).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Coursework, internships, or hands-on projects in cybersecurity, embedded systems, automotive, IoT, or edge computing.
  • Experience or familiarity with containers, Kubernetes, AWS, infrastructure-as-code (Terraform/Pulumi), or CI/CD systems.
  • Interest in AI/LLM security topics (prompt injection, model supply chain, agent sandboxing, guardrails).
  • Familiarity with IAM, secrets management, PKI, or zero-trust concepts.
  • Exposure to security tools and processes: SAST/DAST, dependency scanning, SBOMs, SIEM, vulnerability scanners.
  • Awareness of security standards/frameworks (ISO/SAE 21434, NIST, OWASP, SOC 2) and threat modeling or incident response practice.

Location & Work Type

  • Location: Houston, TX (onsite or hybrid as defined by Confidential Client). Specific scheduling and remote/hybrid options will be discussed during interview.
  • Employment type: Volunteer (entry-level) per source posting — applicants should review the role details for exact employment terms.

Why Join

  • Work on mission-critical security for autonomous vehicle systems and their cloud backplane in the Freight and Package Transportation industry.
  • Gain broad exposure across embedded/vehicle security, cloud/platform security, and AI/LLM risk mitigation.
  • Mentorship from experienced engineers and opportunities to learn full-stack security engineering practices.

Legal & Process Notes

  • Offers may be contingent on background checks and verification as allowed by law.
  • Confidential Client will comply with applicable federal, state, and local hiring laws (including wage notice, leave, and anti-discrimination laws where applicable).
