Position Overview
Confidential Client is seeking a motivated Software Engineer to join a team that builds and operates secure, reliable, and scalable access-management systems. You will primarily develop backend services in Java or Go, design APIs, improve system reliability and observability, and partner with product, security, and infrastructure teams to deliver production-quality solutions. This role is based in San Francisco, CA and is a strong fit for engineers with solid software fundamentals who want to increase ownership and technical depth.
What You’ll Do
- Design, implement, test, deploy, and maintain production backend services (primarily Java or Go)
- Deliver well-scoped features and technical improvements with increasing independence
- Build and improve services, APIs, libraries, and developer tooling that support access-related workflows
- Write clear, maintainable, and well-tested code; participate actively in code and design reviews
- Debug production issues and lead root-cause analysis across services and system boundaries
- Improve system reliability, observability, performance, and security
- Participate in operational responsibilities including monitoring and incident response where applicable
- Contribute to runbooks, technical documentation, engineering standards, and team best practices
- Identify opportunities to reduce technical debt and simplify systems
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
- Software development experience using Java or Go as a primary language
- Strong grasp of core software engineering concepts: data structures, algorithms, APIs, testing, debugging, and version control
- Ability to understand an existing codebase and make safe, maintainable changes
- Experience writing automated tests and diagnosing software defects
- Familiarity with distributed systems, backend services, and cloud infrastructure
- Clear communicator who can collaborate effectively with engineers and cross-functional partners
- Demonstrated ownership of well-defined engineering tasks through to completion
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience building production backend services and RESTful or RPC-style APIs
- Familiarity with authentication, authorization, identity, permissions, or access-control concepts
- Experience with cloud platforms, containers, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and observability tooling
- Knowledge of secure software development and security principles
- Experience operating production services and troubleshooting distributed systems
- Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code and developer productivity tooling
Benefits & Salary
Confidential Client offers a competitive compensation and benefits package. For U.S.-based roles, the expected starting base salary range is $98,000 to $175,450, depending on experience and geographic location; offers may exceed this range. Total compensation may also include bonuses, equity, and a comprehensive benefits package.
