What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is seeking a Software Engineer to join a large, multi-hundred-person technical development program supporting web-based applications. You will work with developers, DevOps, security, systems, and data engineers. The role is full-stack aware with an emphasis on backend engineering (web services, data persistence, integrations).

• Design, develop, test, and maintain backend services and APIs (Java/JAX-WS).
• Implement and optimize persistence using Java Persistence API (JPA) for complex database schemas.
• Build, deploy, and troubleshoot services on Linux (CLI) environments.
• Collaborate with cross-functional Agile teams (sprints, CI/CD pipelines, code reviews).
• Integrate Java applications with cloud services (AWS) and RDS/Oracle where applicable.
• Participate in on-call rotation (after a one-year onboarding period) to respond to production incidents outside normal business hours.
• Contribute to observability (ELK, logging), automation (Jenkins, Puppet), and monitoring (Nagios) improvements.

Required Qualifications

• Active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph — Active status is required.
• BS degree in a related information technology discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
• 6+ years (approximately 72 months) of professional software development experience with a backend emphasis.
• Strong Java programming skills and practical Java Persistence API (JPA) experience.
• Experience developing Java web services (JAX/WS).
• Working knowledge of Linux command line and system administration basics.
• Experience working in Agile development teams and workflows.
• Familiarity with Spring Framework / Spring Boot.
• Willingness to join a one-week on-call rotation after the first year.
• Ability to work in Reston, VA as required by the program.

Desired Qualifications

• Experience with cloud development (AWS) and Java integration with AWS services.
• Experience with Oracle databases (including Oracle RDS).
• Frontend framework experience such as Vue.js and UI frameworks (Bootstrap, Vuetify).
• Scripting and language experience: Python, JavaScript, Bash, XML, JSON, YAML, SQL, PL/SQL.
• Tooling: Git / GitHub, ELK stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana), Jenkins, Puppet, Nagios.
• Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and performance optimization skills.

Working Conditions & Schedule

• Core hours: 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM local time daily; typical 40-hour work week.
• One-week on-call rotation required after one year on contract to address system issues outside normal hours.
• This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain required security clearances and to work onsite or at program-designated facilities in Reston, VA as needed.

Compensation & Benefits

• Base salary range: $164,000 — $182,000 per year (USD).
