About the Role
Our confidential client is hiring a backend Software Engineer to build and maintain systems that collect, process, search, and deliver short-form video data. This is a full-time role on a small, mostly-remote engineering team where engineers work directly with product owners, customers, and founding leadership.
What You’ll Work On
- Backend services to collect and normalize short-form video, account, and engagement data
- Public API design and implementation — endpoints, auth, rate limits, error handling, and docs
- Search and filtering across videos, creators, accounts, keywords, and metrics
- Account tracking, outlier detection, exports, and alerting workflows
- Background jobs, queues, retries, and monitoring for long-running data processes
- Internal tools for inspecting API activity, usage, and data-quality issues
- Integrations so customers can embed data into their products and workflows
- Troubleshooting performance: query latency, data freshness, failed jobs, and high-volume requests
What You’ll Do Day-to-Day
- Design, build, test, and maintain backend services and APIs
- Own features from planning through production release and monitoring
- Collaborate with product and customer-facing teams to refine requirements
- Investigate and resolve customer- and production-reported bugs
- Write tests for new functionality and recurring failure modes
- Participate in code reviews and document important technical decisions
- Improve observability so issues are detected before customers report them
- Speak with selected API customers to surface technical requirements and tradeoffs
Minimum Qualifications
- 3+ years professional backend or full-stack engineering experience
- Experience building production web applications or developer-facing APIs
- Strong experience in at least one backend language (Python, TypeScript/Node, Go, or Java)
- Experience designing REST APIs: auth, pagination, rate limits, webhooks
- Familiarity with relational databases and writing efficient queries
- Experience with background jobs, queues, scheduled tasks, or event-driven systems
- Comfortable with automated testing, Git, code review, and CI/CD practices
- Experience deploying and operating services on AWS, GCP, or Azure
- Clear written communication and the ability to work with minimal management layers
Relevant / Helpful Experience
- Web scraping, browser automation, or working with unofficial third-party data sources
- Search systems, large datasets, or analytics pipelines
- Integrating with social media APIs and handling frequently changing external platforms
- Building ETL/data pipelines and asynchronous processing systems
- SaaS products with usage-based billing or developer-focused APIs
- Startup experience where engineers regularly speak to customers
How Success Is Measured (First 90 Days)
- Ship changes to an existing backend service and deploy safely to production
- Understand end-to-end data flow from collection through API delivery
- Resolve production bugs independently with minimal direction
- Improve at least one recurring reliability or performance issue
- Take ownership of a defined product or API workflow
Compensation & Location
This position is full-time and supports remote work within the United States. Compensation details will be provided during the hiring process or where required by state/local pay-transparency laws.
