What You’ll Do
Confidential Client is hiring a Staff / Senior Staff-level Software Engineer to architect, build, and ship enterprise AI systems that power workflows across the organization. You will own end-to-end delivery: from discovery with customers, through prototyping and production deployment, to telemetry and ongoing improvement. This is a high-leverage role focused on reusable platform capabilities (agents, retrieval, orchestration) rather than one-off automations.
- Architect, implement, and operate LLM-driven AI solutions for automation, document intelligence, decision support, fraud detection, and intelligent assistants
- Design agent orchestration systems: harness management, context handling, tool binding, reasoning steps, and business-logic execution
- Build modern retrieval/knowledge layers (indexing, embeddings, relevance scoring, multi-source context blending)
- Rapidly prototype proofs-of-concept, iterate to MVP, and take solutions to production at scale
- Produce reliable, observable, and secure systems with appropriate guardrails and compliance controls
- Write clean, well-tested code and author unit tests and acceptance tests
- Lead code reviews, design reviews, and document architecture and operational runbooks
- Drive cross-team reuse by creating libraries, APIs, and platform components adopted across multiple products
- Mentor and coach engineers; participate in hiring and technical leadership conversations
- Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to production incidents; perform root-cause analysis and remediation
- For Senior Staff: serve as a trusted technical advisor to senior leadership; influence build vs. buy vs. reuse decisions and long-term AI strategy
Core Competencies
- Customer empathy: translate user workflows into impactful AI products
- Engineering excellence: deliver scalable, maintainable, well-tested systems
- One-team collaboration: work cross-functionally to align tech with business needs
- Owner's mindset: take end-to-end responsibility for outcomes in ambiguous environments
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent experience
- Staff level: minimum 8 years of software engineering experience; Senior Staff: minimum 10 years (or comparable depth)
- Proven experience leading technical direction for teams and across multiple applications
- Demonstrated experience engineering AI systems, including LLM-driven and agentic architectures, orchestration frameworks, and tool integration
- Track record of taking prototypes from POC to MVP to production
- Strong command of one or more object-oriented programming languages and design patterns
- Practical experience with data modeling, messaging, and enterprise-grade application design
- Experience building and operating mission-critical, enterprise-class applications
- Proven ability to coach and mentor engineers
- Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing and operating production retrieval systems (RAG, GraphRAG) and embedding pipelines
- Experience shipping generative AI systems at scale with observability, reliability, and guardrails
- Familiarity with vector databases, feature stores, and AI-oriented data architecture
- Deep knowledge of context layers for agentic systems: multi-source blending, context window management, relevance scoring, and context quality evaluation
- Strong skills with modern IDEs and advanced developer tooling
- Prior experience working in regulated or compliance-sensitive enterprise environments
Location & Working Conditions
This role is TELECOMMUTE (remote), with an expectation that the engineer will be located within the United States and able to work overlapping hours with teams in Greater Philadelphia. Occasional planned travel to an assigned office location (Southfield, MI) may be required.
