What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is building enterprise AI capabilities that power customer workflows across the organization. As a Software Engineer on the Enterprise AI Enablement team, you will design, build, and ship reusable AI engineering systems — from prototype to production — that support automation, document intelligence, decision support, fraud detection, and intelligent assistants.

  • Architect, build, and deploy applied AI solutions and end-to-end systems (POC → MVP → production).
  • Design agent orchestration frameworks that manage context, tool binding, reasoning, and business logic.
  • Implement knowledge-retrieval architectures (indexing, embeddings, relevance scoring) to feed agent contexts.
  • Build reusable platform components, tools, and SDKs designed for broad enterprise adoption.
  • Write clear, maintainable code and unit tests; validate software against acceptance criteria.
  • Improve system reliability, observability, and production guardrails for AI services.
  • Lead code reviews, author technical design documents, and document projects for long-term maintenance.
  • Debug production incidents, propose effective cross-application solutions, and participate in on-call rotation.
  • Collaborate closely with product and business stakeholders to convert ambiguous problems into impactful, measurable outcomes.
  • Mentor and coach junior engineers; contribute to hiring and technical evaluation activities.
  • (Senior Staff) Act as a trusted technical advisor to leadership, framing trade-offs and guiding build-vs-buy decisions.

Where You’ll Work

  • This role is TELECOMMUTE (remote-first). Occasional planned travel to an assigned Southfield, MI office may be required; candidates may elect to work from that office if preferred.
  • Applicants should be authorized to work in the U.S.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related field — OR equivalent experience.
  • Staff level: Minimum ~8 years of relevant software engineering experience (or comparable depth).
  • Senior Staff level: Minimum ~10 years of relevant software engineering experience (or comparable depth).
  • Demonstrated experience leading technical direction for teams or cross-application initiatives.
  • Practical experience engineering AI systems, including LLM-driven/agentic architectures, orchestration frameworks, and tool integration.
  • Proven track record of taking prototypes to production at enterprise scale.
  • Strong competency in one or more object-oriented languages and software design patterns.
  • Practical experience in data modeling, messaging systems, and mission-critical enterprise applications.
  • High ownership, comfort with ambiguity, and a bias for action.
  • Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation and respond to production incidents.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor engineers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing and shipping retrieval systems (RAG, GraphRAG) and production embedding pipelines.
  • Familiarity with vector databases, feature stores, and AI-oriented data architectures.
  • Prior work on agent context layers (multi-source blending, context-window management, relevance scoring).
  • Deep knowledge of operating AI systems in enterprise environments (reliability, observability, compliance, guardrails).
  • Experience with orchestration for agentic systems and integrating tools/APIs for multi-step reasoning.
  • Strong proficiency with modern IDEs, rapid prototyping, and testing practices.

Competencies & Culture Fit

  • Customer Empathy — build solutions with a clear understanding of the user workflow and pain points.
  • Engineering Excellence — deliver high-quality, well-tested systems that scale.
  • One Team — collaborate across functions and share ownership of outcomes.
  • Owner’s Mindset — take accountability for long-term success and technical health.

What We Offer

  • Opportunity to lead and shape enterprise AI systems used across the business.
  • Remote-first role with occasional in-person collaboration and travel.
  • A collaborative engineering culture that values mentorship, continuous learning, and pragmatic delivery.
