Role Overview

Confidential Client is seeking an entry-level Software Engineer and Quality Assurance (QA) Specialist to join their Richland, WA team supporting environmental software used at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Hanford Site. This role blends software development (primarily Python and C#/.NET) with software quality assurance activities, documentation, testing, and configuration control. The position is full-time and includes a salary range of $75,000–$107,000 depending on experience and education.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the QA Manager, SQA Team Lead, and Responsible Manager with quality assurance operations to meet SQA requirements.
  • Create and maintain SQA documentation and software maintenance records for projects in the Richland office.
  • Review, test, and report on commercially available and custom-developed software following SQA procedures.
  • Maintain software configuration control and support internal audits for adherence to SQA procedures under the federal contract.
  • Support development of custom scripts and applications under guidance (primarily Python and/or .NET).
  • Create and maintain quality documentation for pre- and post-processing scripts used in numerical modeling.
  • Manipulate and analyze large, disjointed environmental datasets (ArcGIS, MS Access, Oracle/PLSQL, MS Excel).
  • Facilitate and process site-specific training materials for staff.
  • Follow established SQA procedures and directions to ensure regulatory compliance.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree plus 2+ years’ relevant experience in software engineering, computer science, data science, or closely related field.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in at least one high-level programming language (Python and/or .NET strongly preferred).
  • Experience developing application software in a structured, maintainable environment.
  • Experience with database development for environmental data is highly desired (MS Access, Oracle/PLSQL).
  • U.S. citizenship is required due to federal contract requirements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Practical experience writing Python and familiarity with the .NET framework.
  • Prior experience producing SQA documentation and working under federal contract SQA requirements.
  • Comfort using the Linux terminal beyond basic file manipulation.
  • Experience with high-performance computing environments.
