What You’ll Do
Confidential Client is seeking an experienced Application Software Engineer (Python) to design, develop, test, and maintain software for embedded and host systems that support advanced defense-related programs. You'll work with cross-disciplinary teams to translate system requirements into robust software, participate in integration and verification, and produce documentation that supports secure, safe deployment.
- Design, implement, and maintain application and embedded software across the development lifecycle.
- Translate customer and system requirements into software design and interface definitions.
- Implement features in Python, C++, and C# and integrate with Linux-based host environments.
- Perform unit and integration testing, participate in peer reviews, and troubleshoot software issues.
- Work with version control (Git) and CI workflows to ensure repeatable builds and deployments.
- Support software system integration, networked communication (TCP/UDP), and cross-component testing.
- Produce and maintain clear technical documentation for development, testing, and deployment.
- Contribute to process improvements, architectural decisions, and adoption of modern development practices.
What We’re Looking For
Candidates should demonstrate strong software engineering fundamentals, practical coding experience, and the ability to work on security-sensitive programs.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Data Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 3 years hands-on experience developing with C++, Python, and C# (associate-level); senior applicants typically 5+ years.
- Proven Linux development experience and proficiency with Git.
- Experience with network protocols and TCP/UDP communication.
- Knowledge of software architecture, design methodologies, and open-architecture development.
- Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and integration skills across host and embedded environments.
- Active U.S. Secret Security Clearance is required; ability to obtain Top Secret/SCI / Special Program Access is required.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; experience collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Nice to Have
- Experience with embedded systems and real-time constraints.
- Background in defense, aerospace, or similar regulated industries.
- Familiarity with safety, security, and regulatory compliance in software development.
- Experience working with large-scale, distributed, or networked systems.
- Exposure to systems engineering practices and model-based design.
Location & Employment Type
This position is based in St. Charles, MO (St. Louis area) and is a full-time, on-site role. Applicants must hold an active U.S. Secret Security Clearance and be eligible to obtain Top Secret/SCI and Special Program Access. Candidates must also be legally authorized to work in the United States.
