The Software Engineer on the Product Experiences team at Confidential Client is responsible for designing and delivering user-facing features that transform complex data into actionable insights for public safety and government users. This role involves full ownership of major product capabilities, collaborating closely with design, product management, and deployment teams to build fast, intuitive, and trustworthy experiences using a modern full-stack technology stack. The engineer will tackle challenging problems such as semantic search, real-time collaboration, and AI-powered features while ensuring high performance and reliability in a mission-critical environment.

Role Overview
Confidential Client is seeking a product-minded Software Engineer to join a small but growing Product Experiences team. You will build the features customers use every day across a large data platform — driving Search, Dossier views, Charts, Dashboards, Maps, Network, Table, Workspace, Docs, Automations, and Mobile experiences. This role requires strong frontend fundamentals, full‑stack comfort, and a passion for shipping polished, reliable user experiences.
What You’ll Do
- Own design and implementation of major, user-facing features end-to-end.
- Collaborate closely with design, product, deployment teams, and end users to translate product goals into reliable software.
- Build performant interfaces for search and semantic discovery across massive datasets.
- Design Dossier and entity views that assemble critical context on demand.
- Implement real-time, collaborative experiences for maps and networks.
- Integrate AI-powered capabilities with clear source transparency and user trust.
- Prioritize latency, resilience, accessibility, and interaction details that make complex workflows feel effortless.
- Write well-tested, maintainable code and participate in code reviews and system design discussions.
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years professional experience working on cross-functional software teams.
- Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Strong frontend fundamentals with React and TypeScript.
- Experience shipping production-grade, user-facing software and iterating on it.
- Comfortable working full-stack (front + backend) to deliver features end-to-end.
- Ability to write robust, well-tested code and navigate large codebases.
- Solid understanding of architecting and scaling distributed systems.
- Product-focused mindset with attention to interaction design and user experience.
- Located in Washington, D.C. and able to work in-office (this listing is for Washington, D.C. — local presence required).
Preferred / Nice to Have
- Experience with Mapbox, complex visualizations, or geospatial workflows.
- Familiarity with search technologies such as Elasticsearch.
- Backend experience with Python and Django or similar frameworks.
- Exposure to data pipelines and orchestration (Celery, Airflow, Kafka).
- Experience integrating ML/AI features and working with model-hosting platforms.

Compensation & Benefits
- Salary Range: $160,000 - $220,000 annually
- Benefits, equity, and bonus (if applicable) included as part of total compensation package.
- Actual pay depends on skills, experience, and specific work location. Local hiring laws and transparency requirements are respected.
