What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is hiring Software Engineers to join an autonomy engineering team focused on unmanned systems (UUVs, USVs) and mission-management software. This role contributes to system-level autonomy, control software, and integration with a common operating picture used for naval mission management.

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain embedded and mission software for unmanned platforms.
  • Implement control-system features and integrate software with an advanced common operating picture and fleet mission-management tools.
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation: requirements, design, implementation notes, and test plans.
  • Collaborate with systems, firmware, hardware, and cross-functional engineering teams to deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Participate across product development lifecycle activities: requirements reviews, design reviews, risk assessments, and defect resolution.
  • Follow software development best practices, coding standards, and CI/CD workflows.
  • Communicate technical findings, issues, and recommendations to internal teams and external stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications

Confidential Client hires across multiple experience levels; specific placement depends on background and interview results.

  • Education & experience (hiring levels supported):
    • Level 1: Bachelor’s in a related field (or HS diploma + 4 yrs relevant experience).
    • Level 2: ~2 yrs relevant experience with Bachelor’s (or MS/alternate experience mix).
    • Level 3 & 4: Mid to senior-level experience per role (see detailed ranges).
  • 5+ years hands-on experience in embedded software programming (C++ and Python).
  • Proven experience working on Linux-based systems.
  • Strong software design, debugging, and testing skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.
  • Effective teamwork and communication across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Comfortable multitasking and working in fast-paced mission-focused projects.

Preferred / Bonus Qualifications

  • 8+ years of software design, development, and test experience.
  • Experience with mission-management systems, unmanned or manned Department of Defense systems.
  • Experience with real-time or resource-constrained embedded platforms.
  • Background in robotics, controls, or autonomy software.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Anticipated salary range: $65,930.00 — $175,000.00 per year (good-faith estimate based on role, location, and responsibilities). Final pay will depend on candidate experience, skills, and other factors.
