What You’ll Do

This Software Engineer Philadelphia PA role focuses on data engineering fundamentals — building, testing, and maintaining reliable SQL-based database solutions that support reporting and analytics.

  • Develop, test, and maintain SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, views, and other database objects
  • Write efficient, optimized SQL to retrieve, transform, and analyze data
  • Assist with relational database design and normalization to support reliable data models
  • Perform data extraction, transformation, validation, and loading (ETL) tasks
  • Generate reports and data extracts to support business and operational needs
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database and query-related issues
  • Monitor query performance and support database optimization efforts
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with developers, data engineers, analysts, and DBAs
  • Support database migration, integration, and data warehouse activities
  • Document database designs, SQL scripts, technical processes, and decisions
  • Keep current with emerging database and ETL tools and best practices

What We’re Looking For (Required)

  • Knowledge of SQL programming and query tuning
  • Familiarity with relational databases such as SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, or PostgreSQL
  • Understanding of database fundamentals: tables, keys, indexes, views, constraints
  • Experience with joins, subqueries, Common Table Expressions (CTEs), and window functions
  • Basic understanding of stored procedures, triggers, functions, and transactions
  • Familiarity with database design and normalization concepts
  • Basic data analysis and reporting knowledge
  • Understanding of data quality, validation, and integrity principles
  • Familiarity with Git or another version control system
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication; ability to work on a team
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field

Nice-to-Have (Preferred)

  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, or PostgreSQL in production
  • Familiarity with ETL tools such as SSIS, Informatica, Talend, or AWS Glue
  • Knowledge of data warehousing concepts (star/snowflake schemas)
  • Exposure to reporting/visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or SSRS
  • Basic programming skills (Python or similar)
  • Familiarity with cloud database services (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Understanding of database performance tuning and query optimization
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments

Compensation, Location & Employment Type

  • Employment type: Full-time
  • Base pay range (provided by the client): $30.00/yr - $35.00/yr (actual pay will depend on skills and experience)
  • Location: Philadelphia, PA — candidate must be open to relocate
