What You’ll Do

As a Software Engineer (OpenSearch) on a cleared program for our confidential client, you will help design, build, and maintain search and analytics solutions that support mission-critical systems.

  • Develop and maintain OpenSearch / Elasticsearch clusters and services.
  • Design indexing pipelines and data ingestion workflows for structured and unstructured data.
  • Build and optimize search queries, aggregations, and relevance tuning to meet performance and reliability targets.
  • Troubleshoot production issues, monitor cluster health, and implement solutions for scale and resiliency.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (backend, DevOps, security, program managers) to integrate search functionality into applications.
  • Document designs, runbooks, and operational procedures; participate in design reviews and code reviews.
  • Follow secure development practices and contribute to continuous improvement of CI/CD pipelines.

Qualifications

Minimum requirements to be considered for this position:

  • U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance with polygraph.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field — or equivalent technical experience.
  • Hands-on experience with OpenSearch or Elasticsearch (indexing, queries, cluster administration).
  • Comfortable working on Linux-based systems and using version control (Git).
  • Solid scripting ability (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation and troubleshooting.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and solid written/verbal communication.
  • This is an entry-level to early-career role — candidates with internships, co-ops, or 0–3 years of relevant experience are encouraged to apply.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with search relevancy tuning and performance optimization.
  • Familiarity with containerization or orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud platforms (AWS preferred).
  • Knowledge of Java, Scala, or other backend languages used with search systems.
  • Experience with observability tooling (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/OpenSearch dashboards).
  • Prior work on government or defense contracts is a plus.

Employment Details & Location

  • Employment type: FULL_TIME
  • Work location: Onsite in Chantilly, VA (local reporting/onsite access required for cleared work)
  • Clearance: TS/SCI with Polygraph required (or ability to obtain and maintain)
  • Typical hours: Full-time; may require periodic on-site presence and occasional adjusted schedules to support deployments or incidents.
