What You’ll Do

Confidential Client builds Physical AI — intelligent systems that integrate hardware, software, and operations to automate real-world industries such as food, mining, and transport. As a Software Engineer (Onboard) on the systems team, you will help deliver reliable, high-performance software that runs on deployed robots and edge compute systems.

  • Diagnose and resolve low-level system issues on Linux-based embedded platforms (dmesg, kernel logs, systemd/journald).
  • Develop and maintain production software components in Python and C++.
  • Build and maintain containerized services and developer tooling (Docker, CI).
  • Implement and debug inter-process communication and bus protocols for sensors and actuators.
  • Integrate and test sensor interfaces (LiDAR, radar, cameras, IMU) and support firmware / driver-level interactions.
  • Profile and benchmark code to improve latency, memory usage, and reliability.
  • Collaborate across hardware, firmware, and operations teams to deliver safe, tested deployments.
  • Communicate technical findings clearly to engineers and non-technical stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Proficient in Python and C++; solid experience with bash, git, and Linux environments.
  • Practical experience diagnosing kernel and system-level failures (dmesg, journalctl, systemd unit/service management).
  • Familiarity with inter-process communication patterns and common bus protocols.
  • Experience working with sensor interfaces (LiDAR, radar, cameras, IMUs) or similar embedded I/O.
  • Demonstrated skills in profiling, benchmarking, and memory management.
  • Comfortable with Docker and common networking utilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; able to work effectively in cross-disciplinary teams.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with Linux kernel internals or device drivers.
  • Background in robotics, autonomy, or fielded physical systems.
  • Exposure to performance-sensitive real-time or near-real-time systems.
  • Prior work deploying and operating software in production physical environments.
