About the role

Join a small, systems-focused engineering team building data infrastructure for multimodal and video-first AI. As a New Grad Software Engineer at Confidential Client, you’ll work on components that move and index petabytes of video and sensor data for real training workloads. Expect to write production code in Python and lower-level languages, profile and optimize real systems, and get meaningful ownership from day one.

What You’ll Do

  • Contribute to core systems across the stack: distributed query engines, dataloaders, storage/indexing layers, or visual understanding pipelines
  • Profile, benchmark, and optimize systems on real workloads and GPU clusters
  • Write clean, maintainable code—primarily Python plus Rust/C++/Go when the problem demands it
  • Prototype from papers, iterate quickly, and ship to production
  • Pair with senior engineers and participate in customer-facing conversations to close the loop between research pain and engineering solutions

Qualifications

  • Recent graduate (within ~1 year) or soon-to-be-graduating with a Bachelor’s or higher in Computer Science or related field
  • Strong programming fundamentals in Python and experience or exposure to Rust, C++, or Go
  • Demonstrable interest in systems, distributed systems, databases, or data infrastructure (projects, coursework, or open-source contributions)
  • Intellectual curiosity—comfortable reading papers, using profilers, and debugging low-level performance issues
  • Able and excited to work in person in San Francisco, with a 4-day in-office/week expectation

Nice to Have

  • Built a substantial systems project in school: database, compiler, kernel work, query engine, emulator, graphics engine, or distributed system
  • Open-source contributions to systems projects
  • Internships on systems-heavy teams (databases, ML infrastructure, GPU/HPC, storage, networking)
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure)
  • Background in computer architecture, OS, compilers, or distributed systems

Perks & Benefits

  • In-person, tight-knit team — 4 days/week in our San Francisco office
  • Competitive compensation and meaningful startup equity
  • Health, vision, and dental coverage
  • Flexible PTO, commuter benefit, and team events
  • Latest Apple hardware and a 401(k) plan with employer match
  • Catered lunches/dinners for San Francisco employees

Location & Employment Type

  • Location: San Francisco, CA (on-site, 4 days/week)
  • Employment type: Full-time
  • Education requirement: Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) expected at time of hire
