What You’ll Do
Confidential Client is seeking a Software Engineer to support real‑time integration of external missile software into an existing Navy Command & Control (C2) software baseline. You will work across Linux and RTOS environments to ensure correct message sequencing, power-up/power-down behavior, and robust system integration.
- Integrate externally developed missile software components into a C2 software baseline.
- Implement and validate message sequencing and power sequencing between weapon software and C2 systems.
- Develop, analyze, and modify real‑time software running on Linux and RTOS platforms.
- Work with Real‑Time Java within VxWorks‑based systems.
- Debug, test, and validate software using automated unit tests and system integration tests.
- Analyze existing codebases to understand interfaces, constraints, and runtime behavior.
- Apply Open Architecture principles when integrating with COTS hardware and middleware.
- Follow established SDLC and software configuration management practices.
- Communicate technical status, risks, and progress to engineering and program leadership.
Qualifications (Required)
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Strong working knowledge of software development principles and object‑oriented design.
- Proficiency in C++ and Java.
- Experience developing and debugging software in Linux environments (RHEL or comparable).
- Experience analyzing and modifying existing software baselines.
- Practical experience across the full SDLC (design through integration and test).
- Experience with software testing practices, including automated unit and integration testing.
- Strong written and verbal technical communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively to meet program schedules.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain at least an Interim Secret security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Real‑Time Operating Systems (RTOS), particularly VxWorks.
- Experience using Real‑Time Java in embedded or mission‑critical systems.
- Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8 or 9, or comparable enterprise Linux distributions.
- Familiarity with Open Architecture systems, middleware, and COTS hardware platforms.
- CompTIA Security+ or willingness to obtain it within 90 days of start.
Location & Clearance
- Primary work location: King George, VA (supporting work at Dahlgren, VA; remote/other site work may include Crane, IN as required).
- This role supports a Department of Defense program and requires eligibility to obtain and maintain at least an Interim Secret clearance.
Compensation
- Target salary range: $100,000 - $130,000 (final offer will depend on experience, education, certifications, and other job‑related factors).
