What You’ll Do
You’ll join a collaborative engineering team supporting mission-focused software used for security and detection systems. This entry-level Software Engineer role emphasizes hands-on learning and growth — you’ll work on Linux-based systems, real-time data processing, and object‑oriented applications using C/C++ and Java. Expect mentorship from experienced engineers and participation across the full software development lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Develop, modify, test, and troubleshoot software applications and systems.
- Write and maintain C/C++ and Java code following modern software development practices.
- Identify bugs, performance issues, and system bottlenecks and help implement fixes.
- Participate in design, development, testing, debugging, and maintenance activities.
- Use Git and other version control tools to manage and maintain code.
- Work in Linux environments (Enterprise Linux such as Red Hat or CentOS).
- Use Docker and CI/CD tools to build, test, and maintain software pipelines.
- Analyze technical issues and collaborate with the team to design solutions.
- Contribute to software used for system design, development, testing, and infrastructure.
- Follow a structured software development process and contribute to a collaborative team culture.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Knowledge of C and C++.
- Understanding of core software development practices, including branching, merging, testing, and code reviews.
- Basic understanding of algorithms, data structures, data analysis, modeling, or simulation.
- Familiarity with Bash or other scripting languages.
- Familiarity with Git or another version control system.
- Familiarity with Docker and CI/CD concepts.
- Familiarity with Linux operating systems (preferably Red Hat or CentOS).
- U.S. citizenship required (this requirement is job-specific and may be necessary for certain contract or classified work).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience or coursework in Java and MATLAB (a plus).
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a diverse, multidisciplinary team.
- Willingness to learn new technologies and software development practices.
- Ability to troubleshoot technical problems and persist through challenges.
- Positive, collaborative attitude and interest in growing as a software professional.
Location & Eligibility
- Location: Kettering, MD (onsite or as specified by the client).
- This role is posted for candidates eligible to work in the United States. U.S. citizenship is required for this position.
Compensation
- Pay Range: $57,850.00 - $104,575.00 per year (reported by the hiring client).
- Final offer will consider experience, education, skills, internal equity, and other lawful factors.
