What You’ll Do

You’ll join a collaborative engineering team supporting mission-focused software used for security and detection systems. This entry-level Software Engineer role emphasizes hands-on learning and growth — you’ll work on Linux-based systems, real-time data processing, and object‑oriented applications using C/C++ and Java. Expect mentorship from experienced engineers and participation across the full software development lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Develop, modify, test, and troubleshoot software applications and systems.
• Write and maintain C/C++ and Java code following modern software development practices.
• Identify bugs, performance issues, and system bottlenecks and help implement fixes.
• Participate in design, development, testing, debugging, and maintenance activities.
• Use Git and other version control tools to manage and maintain code.
• Work in Linux environments (Enterprise Linux such as Red Hat or CentOS).
• Use Docker and CI/CD tools to build, test, and maintain software pipelines.
• Analyze technical issues and collaborate with the team to design solutions.
• Contribute to software used for system design, development, testing, and infrastructure.
• Follow a structured software development process and contribute to a collaborative team culture.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• Knowledge of C and C++.
• Understanding of core software development practices, including branching, merging, testing, and code reviews.
• Basic understanding of algorithms, data structures, data analysis, modeling, or simulation.
• Familiarity with Bash or other scripting languages.
• Familiarity with Git or another version control system.
• Familiarity with Docker and CI/CD concepts.
• Familiarity with Linux operating systems (preferably Red Hat or CentOS).
• U.S. citizenship required (this requirement is job-specific and may be necessary for certain contract or classified work).

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience or coursework in Java and MATLAB (a plus).
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a diverse, multidisciplinary team.

Location & Eligibility

• Location: Kettering, MD (onsite or as specified by the client).
• This role is posted for candidates eligible to work in the United States. U.S. citizenship is required for this position.

Compensation

• Pay Range: $57,850.00 - $104,575.00 per year (reported by the hiring client).
• Final offer will consider experience, education, skills, internal equity, and other lawful factors.
