Role overview

Confidential Client is seeking a Junior Software Engineer to join a small engineering team developing embedded software for aircraft systems and aircraft test systems. This hands-on role focuses on C++ development, Linux-based integration, high-fidelity simulation, and flight-test support. The position is contract-to-hire and based onsite in Round Rock, TX.


What You’ll Do / Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain embedded software for new and existing aircraft systems and aircraft test systems using C++.
  • Integrate and test software on target hardware and within virtual high-fidelity simulation environments.
  • Support flight test activities: prepare test artifacts, execute tests, and analyze results.
  • Produce clear design and test documentation for internal teams and external partners.
  • Follow an established software development process and contribute to continuous improvement.
  • Create and execute software test plans and procedures to verify system requirements.
  • Participate in planning, design, testing, and deployment of moderately complex engineered systems.
  • Collaborate closely with a small, accessible engineering team and take on growing responsibilities as projects expand.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum ~2 years of professional experience in embedded software development.
  • Proficiency in C++ for embedded systems.
  • Practical experience with Linux-based development environments.
  • Familiarity with Simulink and model-based design concepts.
  • Understanding of control systems and their implementation in embedded software.
  • Ability to develop and execute software test plans and procedures.
  • Willingness/ability to obtain security clearance as required for defense-related projects.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

  • Experience in aerospace or defense environments, especially aircraft systems or flight-test support.
  • Hands-on experience integrating software with high-fidelity simulation environments.
  • Background working in smaller or lean engineering teams and comfort with varied responsibilities.
  • Strong technical documentation and communication skills.

Work Location & Employment Type

  • Onsite — Round Rock, TX (primary work site).
  • Employment type: Contract-to-hire (CONTRACTOR).
  • This role supports defense-related programs; some project work may require the ability to obtain and maintain security clearance.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Pay range: $75.00 - $100.00 per hour. Individual compensation offered within this range will depend on qualifications, experience, geographic location, internal equity, and other job-related factors.
