What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is seeking a contractor-level software engineer to support a platform-security initiative focused on transitioning an XML-based Key Server to an object-based architecture. You will work closely with the internal cybersecurity team to design, implement, and maintain secure services for key, certificate, token, and secret management.

  • Contribute to the transition of an XML-based Key Server to object-based models for certificates, cryptographic keys, tokens, secrets, metadata, versioning, and lifecycle state.
  • Design and implement secure, versioned REST and/or gRPC APIs (create, retrieve, update, delete, synchronize) and object-level lifecycle operations.
  • Build reliable software for distributed environments (including intermittent connectivity between ground and aircraft systems) emphasizing security, compatibility, performance, and operational resilience.
  • Integrate approved cryptographic primitives and secret-management mechanisms (encryption, decryption, key-wrapping, certificate handling) without changing approved algorithms, key sizes, or signature schemes.
  • Implement centralized logging, monitoring, audit trails, and end-to-end traceability for object access, synchronization, lifecycle, and error events.
  • Write and maintain engineering documentation: architecture, interfaces, design, requirements, test plans, and test procedures.
  • Develop, test, debug, and integrate software on Linux-based systems; create developer tools and subsystems to improve testability and reuse.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Hands-on Golang development experience on Linux.
  • AWS experience (designing/deploying services or using AWS components in development workflows).
  • Experience with embedded hardware/software (x86, Cortex ARM microprocessors, SoCs) and real-time/embedded systems.
  • Strong knowledge of secure software-development practices, object-oriented design, data structures, and software architecture.
  • Proven experience designing and implementing REST APIs and/or gRPC services.
  • Experience with networked client-server or distributed applications using TCP/IP, and authentication/authorization models (RBAC, ACLs).
  • Proficiency with structured data formats and serialization (JSON, XML) and schema/versioning strategies to maintain backward compatibility.
  • Familiarity with source control, code review workflows, automated builds, unit testing, and integration testing.
  • Strong debugging, troubleshooting, performance analysis, and systems-integration skills.
  • Clear written and verbal communication; ability to manage priorities and collaborate cross-functionally.

Preferred / Highly Desirable

  • Direct experience with cryptographic key management, certificate management, PKI, or secret-management systems.
  • Working knowledge of AES, RSA, TLS/mTLS, certificate handling, key wrapping, IVs, and related cryptographic concepts.
  • Experience designing object versioning, schema evolution, and compatibility strategies.
  • Prior work on safety- or security-critical systems, especially in connected or aerospace environments.
