Software Engineer: Internal Automation
The Software Engineer on the Internal Automation team at Confidential Client will design and build backend systems that automate internal workflows and data integration, reducing manual work and improving operational efficiency. This role involves developing production services powered by AI agents, handling secure data integrations, and owning end-to-end deployment and monitoring in a fast-paced startup environment focused on transforming finance with AI.

What You’ll Do
- Own internal automation systems end-to-end — design, build, test, deploy, and operate services that replace manual workflows (routing, approvals, notifications, reporting, provisioning).
- Build a robust internal data layer: integrate CRM, billing, usage, call records, support history and third‑party enrichment into a single reliable source of truth.
- Ship unattended agents and automation: implement agent workflows for research, enrichment, drafting, summarization, data entry, and systems hygiene with evaluation, guardrails, and monitoring to run safely in production.
- Automate the customer lifecycle: provisioning, onboarding, account setup and integrations that remove implementation bottlenecks.
- Use the same AI capabilities that power the product: design automations powered by LLMs, retrieval, tool/function-calling, and agent orchestration.
- Ensure security and compliance: build integrations and pipelines that protect company and customer data with strong privacy and reliability practices.
- Measure impact: instrument what you ship and track hours saved, error rates, and cycle time; iterate and retire features that don’t deliver measurable value.
What You’ll Need
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- 2+ years professional software engineering experience shipping and operating backend systems end-to-end.
- Strong TypeScript skills for backend services and APIs; familiarity with Java or Python is a plus.
- Hands-on experience deploying and running production services on GCP or equivalent cloud platforms.
- Solid command of relational databases and SQL (schema design, query optimization, data modeling for downstream consumers).
- Practical experience building with LLMs in production: prompting, retrieval, tool/function calling, agent workflows, evaluation and guardrails.
- Experience integrating third-party APIs (REST, webhooks, auth patterns, rate limits, pagination) and reconciling disparate data.
- Knowledge of asynchronous patterns: queues, background jobs, scheduling, retries, idempotency, observability (logging, metrics, tracing).
- Strong communication skills: able to work with non-technical stakeholders, translate workflows into requirements, and deliver without a fully detailed spec.
- Track record of shipping high-quality software autonomously in fast-moving environments.
- Demonstrated passion for automation and AI agents through systems you’ve built.
Nice to Have
- Prior experience in financial software, corporate finance, or capital markets workflows.
- Deep familiarity with production evaluation frameworks for model-driven agents.
- Experience building secure integrations for enterprise customers.
Who You Are
- You thrive in fast-paced startup environments and take strong ownership of work.
- You enjoy solving ambiguous problems and shipping pragmatic solutions.
- You’re curious about AI and enjoy learning and applying new techniques.
- You communicate clearly, collaborate respectfully, and build reliable systems others can trust.
