About the Role
We’re working with a Confidential Client in the Software Development industry hiring a Software Engineer, Infrastructure — Self-Managed Experience (SMX). This team makes the product deployable and operable for customers who run their own infrastructure. The role focuses on building, maintaining, and releasing distribution and installation artifacts (Helm charts, Docker Compose, C8Run) while collaborating with teams that own reference architectures and cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Azure).
This is a full-time role based in New York, NY (telecommute-friendly). Candidates should be comfortable shipping production-ready deployment artifacts, improving CI/CD and release quality, and partnering with support and customer-facing teams to prioritize real-world operational needs.
What You’ll Do
- Build, maintain, and release distribution artifacts for self-managed customers — Helm charts (Kubernetes), C8Run, and Docker Compose — and keep their documentation accurate and up to date.
- Improve reliability and usability across the full customer lifecycle: installation, upgrades, and day‑2 operations (not just first-time installs).
- Implement and improve CI/CD (GitHub Actions or similar) and release automation to raise release quality and reproducibility.
- Engage directly with Support, Consulting, and Presales to surface deployment pain points and influence prioritization and product decisions.
- Participate in shared on-call/medic rotations and resolve engineering-level support cases; feed learnings back into product and automation.
- Contribute to shared tooling (review, deployment, test tooling) to help other teams adopt robust release and test practices.
- Drive improvements in developer and operator experience around deployment, multi-region setups, backup/restore, and disaster recovery.
Qualifications
- Proven experience building, operating, and maintaining Helm charts and deploying applications on Kubernetes.
- Strong experience implementing CI/CD pipelines (preferably GitHub Actions) and release automation.
- Practical experience managing infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform) and packaging deployment artifacts (Docker Compose, C8Run or similar).
- Clear technical writing skills and ability to produce documentation that helps customers and internal teams.
- Pragmatic, autonomous approach to programming and problem solving — you take ownership from design through operation.
- Comfortable working closely with customer-facing teams and translating operational signals into engineering priorities.
Nice to Haves
- Experience operating on-prem / self-hosted software on Docker.
- Familiarity with Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, or similar observability tooling.
- Working knowledge of Go.
- Exposure to cloud infrastructure and crossplane or advanced Terraform patterns.
Compensation & Benefits
- United States (Annual Total Target Cash): $119,900 to $193,200 (range reflects Standard to Major market differences; final offer depends on skills, experience, and location).
