Role overview
Confidential Client is seeking a Software Engineer - Infrastructure to join their Infrastructure team in Portland, OR. This team builds scalable, secure, and maintainable foundations used across the engineering organization — from networking and container orchestration to observability and automation. You’ll work on platform-level projects that enable product teams to move quickly and safely, with a focus on security-by-default, observability-by-default, and developer experience.
What You’ll Do
- Build and evolve an Infrastructure Platform that supports hundreds of engineers and product teams.
- Deliver core infrastructure projects end-to-end: define requirements, write RFCs/technical specs, implement, and iterate.
- Design systems that are agent-friendly (AI agents) while remaining intuitive and safe for human engineers.
- Maintain and operate infrastructure spanning networking, storage, container orchestration (ECS/EKS), and AWS services.
- Ship frequently to production and help product teams diagnose and resolve production issues.
- Contribute to infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD pipelines, and help scale these systems to support many engineers contributing safely.
Minimum qualifications
- 2+ years of professional experience with AWS (EC2, RDS, OpenSearch, ECS/EKS or similar).
- Strong fundamentals in Linux, containers, and low-level OS concepts.
- 2+ years working with Terraform or similar infrastructure-as-code tooling in medium-to-large environments.
- 2+ years of technical writing experience creating RFCs, technical specifications, and clear documentation.
- Strong curiosity, attention to detail, and a proven ability to go deep on hard engineering problems.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience operating in regulated or security-focused environments (SOC2, HITRUST, or similar).
- 2+ years of experience writing application or infrastructure code (Python, Go, or similar).
- Experience with observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, OpenSearch) and monitoring production systems.
- Comfortable contributing to or working with cloud-native open-source projects.
- Interest or experience building safe agentic systems that allow AI agents to interact with infrastructure in a controlled way.
Technology & tools you’ll work with
- Cloud: AWS (EC2, RDS, OpenSearch, ECS, EKS)
- IaC & CI/CD: Terraform, GitHub, GitHub Actions
- Observability: Prometheus, Grafana, OpenSearch, OpenTelemetry
- Containerization/orchestration: Docker, Kubernetes / EKS, ECS
