Software Engineer in Test
The Software Engineer in Test (SDET) at Confidential Client partners with Agile teams to design, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks primarily using Playwright and TypeScript. This role drives the modernization of test automation, supports CI/CD pipelines, and ensures quality through collaboration, exploratory testing, and compliance with enterprise standards in a hybrid work environment.

What You’ll Do
- Work as an SDET on hybrid teams to define acceptance criteria, promote a test-first mindset, and partner with Agile feature teams during design and refinement sessions.
- Build, maintain, and evolve test automation frameworks (Playwright preferred) and test suites for UI and API (REST/SOAP) validation.
- Drive migration from legacy frameworks (e.g., Selenium + Java, Postman/Newman) to modern unified automation aligned with CI/CD pipelines.
- Integrate automated tests into CI pipelines and provide fast, actionable feedback on build and release quality.
- Design and execute exploratory and manual testing for complex workflows not yet automated.
- Create and maintain automated end-to-end and API tests that validate functional and non-functional requirements.
- Participate in code reviews, contribute to test architecture and reliability decisions, and promote reusable, maintainable test assets.
- Write and maintain SQL queries to validate data integrity and support test data strategies.
- Champion quality engineering best practices, mentor peers, and contribute to continuous QA process improvements.
- Ensure traceability between requirements, tests, and defects and support compliance with enterprise policies (e.g., HIPAA, security, audit readiness).
Preferred Experience
- Hands-on experience with Playwright (TypeScript preferred) or similar frameworks (e.g., Cypress).
- Experience migrating test automation from Selenium + Java or Postman to modern frameworks.
- Proven work with CI/CD pipelines to run automated tests and report results.
- Familiarity with test reporting/dashboarding and quality metrics in a DevOps environment.
- Experience with test case management and requirements traceability tools (qTest, QMetry, TestRail).
Required Skills & Qualifications
- SDET experience; typically 3+ years in software test automation or quality engineering.
- Strong experience automating API and UI tests (REST/SOAP).
- Comfortable writing SQL to validate data and build test data queries.
- Proficiency with TypeScript or Java (when supporting legacy frameworks).
- Solid understanding of CI/CD, test integration, and automation best practices.
- Effective communicator, collaborative team player, and quality advocate.
- Ability to work in a hybrid model and support teams across Michigan-based locations.
