What You’ll Do

As a Software Engineer contractor supporting a Confidential Client in the Engineering Services industry, you will join an early-career development team focused on modernizing and maintaining engineering software. Typical responsibilities include:

  • Contribute to software development using strong programming fundamentals (C++, debugging, version control).
  • Understand, refactor, and modernize complex legacy codebases and support code conversion efforts.
  • Perform requirements analysis: elicit, analyze, and document functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Work with data: query and extract data, assist in analysis using statistical and business-statistics techniques.
  • Troubleshoot simulation outputs and large datasets; translate quantitative results into actionable findings.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to clarify requirements and communicate technical concepts clearly.
  • Produce clear documentation and unit tests; follow established development workflows and quality standards.

Who We’re Looking For (Minimum Qualifications)

Candidates who meet the following are encouraged to apply:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a relevant field (Master’s degree accepted).
  • 0–2 years of professional experience (internships and comparable roles accepted).
  • Strong programming fundamentals; familiarity with C++ (ability to read, debug, and refactor code).
  • Experience or familiarity with version control systems and debugging tools.
  • Knowledge of requirements analysis techniques and working with stakeholders to capture needs.
  • Basic knowledge of business statistics and ability to interpret data to support decisions.
  • Familiarity with query and database access tools for searching and extracting data.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in code and documentation.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills to explain technical topics to non-technical audiences.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

  • Experience or exposure to legacy language modernization (e.g., COBOL or FORTRAN) or prior work on code conversion projects.
  • Demonstrated analytical thinking with large datasets or simulation outputs.
  • Any prior experience in engineering or simulation software projects.
