What You’ll Do
Confidential Client is hiring a Software Engineer II to help protect customers from account takeover (ATO) and other fraud through rules, backend services, and close collaboration with policy and analytics partners. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on fraud decisioning and production reliability.
- Author, maintain, and optimize fraud rules and policies across real-time fraud decisioning engines to improve detection precision and reduce friction for legitimate customers
- Design, implement, and ship backend features, API changes, and integrations in the fraud-prevention stack
- Produce production-quality code, automated tests, and CI/CD artifacts; participate in code reviews and design docs to raise engineering quality
- Use AI-assisted coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, etc.) as part of your workflow to accelerate rule authoring and service development — always verify and test outputs before release
- Translate policy and analytics requirements into precise, testable rule logic; tune thresholds, fraud signals, and link-analysis weights
- Run pre-release validation (silent/shadow mode), manage safe rollouts and change approvals, and operate artifact-deployment tooling
- Monitor services in production, participate in on-call rotations, and rapidly resolve incidents using observability dashboards and alerts
- Collaborate closely with Policy, Analytics, Data Science, and Product teams to respond to emerging fraud attacks and iterate on detection coverage
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience
- 2+ years of professional software engineering experience contributing to backend services (SWE2 level)
- Strong experience designing and building RESTful APIs and API integrations
- Experience with database technologies (relational and/or NoSQL)
- Familiarity with a server framework such as Spring MVC (preferred), Express, or Django
- Hands-on experience with production services: deployment, testing, observability, and on-call support
- Proficiency in a server-side language — especially Java (primary stack); Python or Node.js are also valuable
- Proficiency with AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, etc.) and the judgment to validate their output
- Solid grasp of Agile development, object-oriented design, and engineering best practices
- Strong written and verbal communication; proven collaboration with cross-functional partners
- Comfortable learning and adapting in a fast-moving environment
Preferred
- Experience converting fraud or risk policy into rule logic, or working with risk decisioning, case-disposition, or trust & safety systems
- Experience contributing to backend services at scale — reliability, performance, and design
- Familiarity with business rules engines (e.g., Drools) and authoring/debugging rule sets
- Exposure to formal release/change-management processes and observability tooling
- Interest in fraud prevention, trust & safety, or risk systems
