Role Overview

This is an onsite, full-time Software Engineer II role supporting a confidential client in the aviation and aerospace component manufacturing industry. The position focuses on embedded software design, development, integration, and verification for mission-critical systems. Candidates should be comfortable working on low-level and systems-level software and collaborating with hardware, systems, and FPGA engineers.


What You Will Do

  • Contribute to development of new embedded products and solutions for mission-critical aerospace applications.
  • Design, implement, and test software components using languages such as C, C++, Rust, and Python.
  • Work across complex problem domains including networking, waveforms, cryptography fundamentals, and embedded devices.
  • Integrate software with hardware and participate in verification activities.
  • Collaborate in agile teams and use DevSecOps practices to maintain secure development workflows.
  • Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and documentation to support system safety and maintainability.

Minimum Qualifications (You Must Have)

  • U.S. citizenship required; ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance (DoD Secret or higher) is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field and typically a minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience (or an advanced degree in a related field).
  • Demonstrated programming experience in C/C++ and/or Python; exposure to Linux-based development environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience or comfort coding in C, C++, Rust, and Python.
  • Some prior experience developing in embedded environments (device drivers, RTOS, bare-metal, or embedded Linux).
  • Security-focused mindset (secure coding, threat awareness).
  • Familiarity with multithreaded and object-oriented development patterns.
  • Basic understanding of symmetric and asymmetric encryption concepts.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range (good-faith estimate): USD 68,900 — USD 131,100 per year. Final pay depends on role level, experience, location, and skills.

Work Location & Hiring Notes

  • Onsite role based in Cedar Rapids, IA. Candidates should be able to work primarily from the onsite location.
  • This is a U.S.-based position. U.S. citizenship is required due to government security clearance eligibility.
