Position Overview

Confidential Client is hiring a Software Engineer I (Onsite) in Tucson, AZ. This entry-level, full-time role contributes to real-time embedded software, firmware, and systems that support defense and aerospace solutions. The role requires U.S. citizenship or eligibility for required government security clearance.


What You’ll Do

  • Assist and participate in requirements, design, development, and testing of real-time embedded software, application software, and engineering tools.
  • Design, code, test, integrate, and document software solutions primarily in C/C++ and related languages.
  • Support hardware–software integration and embedded system testing on target boards and microcontrollers.
  • Participate in internal reviews of software components and systems; follow configuration management and established development processes.
  • Collaborate with project managers, systems engineers, and other engineering teams on tasks with defined scope, schedule, and deliverables.
  • Work on agile teams to deliver incremental capabilities for fielded and next-generation systems.

What You’ll Learn

  • Hands-on experience with real-time systems design and embedded software development.
  • Exposure to digital signal processing, autonomy/machine learning integration, cybersecurity, and DevOps practices relevant to mission systems.
  • Practical knowledge of RTOS, low-level firmware, and HW/SW integration on constrained platforms.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or another STEM discipline completed by start date.
  • Experience with C, C++, or another object-oriented programming language (projects, coursework, or on-the-job).
  • Experience or coursework in hardware–software integration and embedded system testing.
  • U.S. citizenship is required and the ability to obtain the necessary U.S. government security clearance (Secret) prior to start, or possession of an active transferable clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Prior internship or co-op experience in embedded software or systems engineering.
  • Experience with Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS).
  • Knowledge of object-oriented design and UML.
  • Experience writing low-level code for microcontrollers, Arduino, or Raspberry Pi.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated teamwork.
  • ABET-accredited degree and a minimum GPA of 3.0 (if applicable).

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: USD 57,200 – USD 108,800 (good-faith estimate covering experience levels). Final offers consider role level, experience, location, education, and skills.
  • Benefits may include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending, flexible work schedules, employee assistance, tuition support, parental leave, paid time off, and paid holidays. Eligibility and specific plans vary by business unit.

Location & Clearance Requirements

  • This is an onsite role based in Tucson, AZ.
  • U.S. citizenship is required due to government security clearance eligibility rules. Candidates must be able to obtain or possess the required DoD Secret clearance (interim clearance ability may be required prior to start).
