Role Overview
Confidential Client (Financial Services) is hiring a Software Engineer I to join a fast-moving engineering team in San Jose, CA. You’ll help build and scale the core compliance orchestration platform and AI agent systems that power customer onboarding and fraud prevention. This is a hands-on role where you’ll take features end-to-end — design, implement, deploy, and operate — across backend services, data pipelines, vendor integrations, and internal tools.
What You’ll Do
- Design, develop, and ship production features across the platform stack (backend APIs, data pipelines, integrations, case management UI)
- Own features from requirements through implementation, deployment, monitoring, and iteration
- Build scalable REST APIs and microservices that orchestrate checks across many compliance vendors
- Implement case-management workflows and business logic for KYB/KYC and AML processes
- Create data pipelines for ingesting, transforming, and routing compliance data at scale
- Integrate with third-party identity/compliance APIs and map vendor responses reliably
- Write tests, documentation, and observability (monitoring, alerting) into your features
- Debug production incidents and own incident resolution end-to-end
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices and architecture discussions
Minimum Qualifications
- 0–2 years professional software engineering experience building and shipping production systems
- Strong programming fundamentals in at least one modern backend language (Python, Go, Java, Node.js, or similar)
- Experience building RESTful APIs, microservices, or distributed systems
- Solid understanding of relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and data modeling
- Familiarity with Git, CI/CD, Docker, and modern deployment practices
- Strong debugging/problem-solving skills and ability to work in unfamiliar codebases
- Clear communication skills; able to translate business needs into technical solutions
Nice-to-Have
- Experience in FinTech, RegTech, payments, or fraud/risk detection
- Knowledge of compliance workflows (KYC/KYB, AML, sanctions screening)
- Experience with event-driven architectures and message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ, AWS SQS)
- Familiarity with NoSQL databases (MongoDB, DynamoDB) or search engines (Elasticsearch)
- Frontend experience (React, TypeScript) for internal tools
- Background with ML/AI systems or data-intensive applications
- Kubernetes, Terraform, or other infrastructure-as-code experience

Compensation & Location
- Location: San Jose, CA (in-person)
- Employment type: Full-time
- Compensation range (provided): $115,000 — $150,000 base (USD). Actual pay depends on experience, skills, and other factors; final offer details discussed during the interview process.
