About the Role

Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Software Engineer I – Ground Software to design, develop, test, and maintain software for space and ground systems. This role is ideal for early-career engineers who write clean, maintainable code, collaborate with senior engineers, and want hands-on experience in mission-driven software for space and defense technology.


What You’ll Do

  • Design, implement, and unit-test software components for ground and mission systems.
  • Write clean, maintainable code that follows industry best practices.
  • Use version control (Git) to manage code and collaborate with the engineering team.
  • Participate in code reviews and pair programming to ensure software quality.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve software defects in a timely manner.
  • Document designs, configurations, processes, and test results.
  • Learn and apply domain knowledge related to telemetry, command-and-control (C2), and mission operations.
  • Stay current with software development trends and space systems technologies.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field — or equivalent work experience.
  • Typically 0–2 years of professional software development experience.
  • Basic proficiency in one or more programming languages and sound software development fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with Git or other version control systems.
  • Ability to write readable, maintainable code and follow established coding standards.
  • Comfortable working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance is required.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required (see Security Clearance section).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Frontend or full-stack experience (React, TypeScript, Node.js, FastAPI or similar).
  • Experience with Windows and Linux/Unix development environments.
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, sockets, client-server architectures).
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks.
  • Familiarity with command-and-control (C2), telemetry, mission-operations, or ground systems software.
  • Basic understanding of spacecraft, satellite, or ground system operations.
  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban).
  • Strong problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills.

Compensation

Pay Range: $83,999.00 - $115,498.25 per year

Your actual base compensation will be determined based on job-related knowledge and skills, education, experience, internal equity and market competitiveness.


Security Clearance & Citizenship

  • This role requires the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required; non-U.S. citizens may not be eligible to obtain the necessary clearance.
