About the Role

Confidential Client is seeking a full-time, on-site Software Engineer I/II to design, build, test, and sustain mission‑critical software that operates and supports advanced radar systems. This hands-on role is ideal for early-career engineers with C or C++ experience who are interested in system-level, timing-sensitive software and collaborating closely with hardware, systems, integration, and test teams.

This position is based on-site in Maryland, MD.

What You Will Do

  • Help design, develop, test, debug, and maintain software components and applications that support advanced radar systems.
  • Implement C/C++ software features from requirements, design guidance, and existing system architecture.
  • Work on radar-system application software that involves multithreaded behavior, timing-sensitive operation, shared resources, and system-level interfaces.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues discovered in development, integration, lab testing, system testing, and field support—collaborating with senior engineers as needed.
  • Coordinate with software, systems, hardware, integration, and test engineers to understand system behavior and support integration efforts.
  • Participate in code reviews, configuration management, documentation, estimation, and engineering process improvements.
  • Learn domain concepts such as radar‑system operation, real‑time software behavior, hardware/software integration, and mission‑critical development practices.
  • Grow technical ownership over time by taking on increasingly complex software tasks and debugging/integration responsibilities.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or a related technical field — or equivalent experience.
  • For Software Engineer I: entry-level candidates are welcome (internship, academic project, or other relevant experience).
  • For Software Engineer II: typically at least two years of relevant software engineering experience, or equivalent.
  • Experience developing software in C or C++ (academic, internship, project, or professional experience).
  • Familiarity with core software concepts: data structures, debugging, memory management, concurrency, operating systems, and performance tradeoffs.
  • Experience using version control and standard software development tools.
  • Interest in system-level, embedded, real-time, or mission‑critical software applications.
  • Preferred (not required): experience with RTOS-based or Linux-based development in hardware-integrated environments.
  • Ability to learn complex domains, communicate clearly, and collaborate across engineering disciplines.
  • U.S. citizenship is required. A current security clearance is not required at hire, but the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance may be needed for future program work.

What This Role Is Not

  • This is not a radar algorithm or signal‑processing development role.
  • This is not a microcontroller or bare‑metal firmware role; the focus is system‑level application software (C/C++) with timing-awareness and integrated system behavior.
  • This is not a remote position — this full-time role is based on-site in Maryland, MD to enable close collaboration with hardware, systems, integration, and test teams.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Software Engineer I estimated range: $75,956 - $98,743 per year.
  • Software Engineer II estimated range: $91,907 - $119,480 per year.
  • Competitive pay plus benefits: medical, dental, vision; employer contribution to HSA; telemedicine; life and disability insurance; legal insurance; 401(k) plan; paid time off and holidays; parental leave; tuition support; professional development; flexible 9/80 schedule for eligible employees. Actual pay depends on experience, qualifications, program requirements, and other factors.

Why Join

  • Work on mission-driven technology that supports defense, critical infrastructure, and public safety.
  • Hands-on engineering with opportunities to learn real-time, system-level software and hardware integration.
  • Collaborative environment with focus on professional growth and work-life balance.
