What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is hiring a Software Engineer I to work within their Insurance technology team. This is an early-career engineering role focused on building, testing, and supporting cloud-first business applications and integrations. You will work with senior engineers on design and delivery, participate in agile ceremonies, and help maintain reliable domain operations.

• Assist with software architecture and system design under guidance from senior engineers; apply software design patterns and document trade-offs.
• Contribute code to features and enhancements, troubleshoot defects, and use debugging tools and logs to resolve issues.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code that follows security best practices and company coding standards.
• Develop and maintain automated unit and regression tests using frameworks such as JUnit, NUnit, GT-Framework, or pytest.
• Support CI/CD pipelines, version control workflows, and simple application deployments.
• Help maintain integrations, financial applications, sales platforms, and other critical business systems to ensure reliability and performance.
• Create and update architectural diagrams and design artifacts using tools like Lucidchart or Visio.
• Participate in agile ceremonies (stand-ups, sprint planning, retrospectives) and collaborate with product owners, Scrum Masters, and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Track KPIs, compliance requirements, and support audit and control activities as needed.
• Contribute ideas and assist with prototyping or applying new technologies (for example: AI/ML, RPA) to solve domain problems.

What We’re Looking For

This role is targeted to candidates who are early in their engineering careers but demonstrate strong fundamentals and a willingness to learn.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Services, or equivalent education/experience.
• Basic proficiency in at least one programming language or development environment; familiarity with low-code/process automation tools is a plus.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms and cloud-native technologies (containers, serverless) is preferred.
• Understanding of software design patterns and the ability to discuss trade-offs for low-complexity system architectures.
• Knowledge of version control (e.g., Git), CI/CD concepts, and basic deployment experience.
• Basic testing knowledge across unit, integration, and system testing; experience with manual testing and defect tracking.
• Awareness of security best practices and common vulnerabilities (e.g., OWASP Top 10).
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders.
• Attention to data quality, how system-generated data flows through domains, and basic data stewardship concepts.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

• Hands-on experience or coursework using unit test frameworks such as JUnit, NUnit, or pytest.
• Prior exposure to CI/CD tooling, build automation, and test automation frameworks.
• Experience contributing to enterprise application integrations or domain operations in production environments.
• Familiarity with monitoring, observability, and tracking KPIs for platform reliability.

Location & Work Arrangement

• This position follows a hybrid work model requiring approximately 3 days per week in the Farmington Hills, MI office and remote work for the remainder of the week.
• Candidates must be able to commute to the Farmington Hills office as required.
