Role Overview

Confidential Client (via Careertakes) is hiring an entry-level Software Engineer to join an R&D-focused engineering team in Des Moines, IA. In this role you'll design, build, and support high-performance, multi-tier systems used by research and development teams. You will work on cloud-enabled services, web applications, and APIs, collaborating closely with engineers and scientific stakeholders to turn complex problems into reliable software solutions.


What You’ll Do

  • Continuously learn and share technical knowledge across the engineering team.
  • Design and implement elegant, maintainable solutions informed by solid design principles and coding best practices.
  • Contribute on an agile development team (Kanban/Scrum) through active collaboration, code reviews, and sprint activities.
  • Develop and support multi-tier, high-performance applications and RESTful services that support R&D workflows.
  • Troubleshoot issues across the stack and collaborate with cross-functional partners to deliver timely fixes and improvements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 2+ years of professional experience developing multi-tier or full-stack applications.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and creative, pragmatic approach to engineering challenges.
  • Hands-on experience with object-oriented languages and web development technologies.
  • Practical experience designing, building, or consuming RESTful APIs.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional engineering teams and business partners.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn domain-specific scientific concepts and apply technical skills to solve them.

Preferred (Nice-to-Have) Qualifications

  • Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS.
  • Familiarity or interest in biology, genetics, or agriculture (helpful but not required).
  • Practical experience with Angular and TypeScript, or C#/.NET and Node.js.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tooling and development workflows (Git, Jira, pipelines).
  • Experience working in agile environments (Kanban, Scrum).
