Role Overview

Confidential Client is hiring a Software Engineer I (Onsite) to support mission sensors, weapons, and IFF avionics systems. This is an onsite, full-time role based in Cedar Rapids, IA. You will work on requirements, automated test development, software verification, and system integration within an Agile engineering environment.


What You’ll Do

  • Help design and define software requirements using DOORS.
  • Develop automated and semi-automated test scripts using Python to validate software functionality and system performance.
  • Verify software builds in integrated lab environments and support formal verification events for major program deliveries.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to refine system requirements and design solutions that meet customer needs.
  • Present technical progress and status updates to Agile team members and engineering leadership.
  • Contribute to improving test development processes, tools, and best practices while maintaining compliance with company standards.

What You’ll Learn

  • Experience integrating Line Replaceable Unit (LRU) software supporting mission sensors, weapons, and IFF avionics systems.
  • Exposure to multiple phases of the aerospace systems lifecycle within a collaborative Agile environment.
  • Growth in software engineering skills by supporting development, verification, and system integration activities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) or equivalent experience.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience scripting with Python (or a similar scripting language).
  • U.S. citizenship is required for this role (candidates must be U.S. citizens or U.S. persons as specified by the contract).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of Ada, C++, or C#.
  • Software-level debugging experience.
  • Familiarity with Git or SVN, Jira, and Confluence.
  • Experience with DOORS or other requirements-management tools.
  • Prior experience in avionics or embedded systems is a plus.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Estimated salary range: $57,200 – $108,800 USD per year (good-faith estimate representing all experience levels).

Work Location & Eligibility

  • This is an onsite position based in Cedar Rapids, IA.
  • U.S. citizenship is required due to program/contract eligibility. Security clearance is not required for this role.
