What You’ll Do

Confidential Client’s Core Systems and Libraries team is seeking an Associate Software Engineer to help design, develop, and certify core software components used in avionics platforms. You will work on safety-critical systems and collaborate across hardware, software, verification, and program teams.

  • Develop architecture and design for core software components, reusable libraries, and supporting tooling aligned to avionics system requirements.
  • Participate across the full software lifecycle: requirements, design, implementation, verification, and delivery.
  • Implement and verify software using modern C++ and object-oriented principles for embedded, safety-critical systems.
  • Produce and maintain DO-178 certification artifacts (including DAL-A deliverables) and ensure traceability from requirements through verification.
  • Write high-level and low-level software requirements; decompose system requirements into software requirements and units.
  • Develop and execute test cases and automated test procedures to validate software behavior and requirements coverage.
  • Contribute to peer reviews, design reviews, and verification reviews to maintain quality and compliance.
  • Engage with customers and regulatory authorities as required for certification and program reviews.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams and program leadership to align technical solutions with program objectives.
  • Travel domestically and internationally as required.

What You’ll Learn

  • Hands-on experience with avionics-grade, safety-critical software development and certification (DO-178).
  • End-to-end product lifecycle skills: requirements, architecture, verification, and delivery of certifiable software.
  • Techniques for designing scalable software product lines that support multiple platforms and customers.
  • Practical knowledge of embedded OSes, real-time constraints, and modern C++ in safety-critical contexts.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) by start date. Experience can include relevant coursework, projects, or research.
  • Ability and willingness to work onsite in Cedar Rapids, IA.
  • U.S. citizenship is required (U.S. citizen/U.S. person) due to contract/program access restrictions.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Experience with C++ in embedded or real-time systems.
  • Familiarity with VxWorks or similar RTOS.
  • Experience producing DO-178 certification artifacts; familiarity with DAL-A is a strong plus.
  • Experience writing high-level and low-level requirements and test cases.
  • Background working with engineering teams to deliver integrated, certified systems.
  • Prior internship, co-op, or work experience in aerospace or defense programs.

What We Offer

  • Work with cross-disciplinary teams on technologies that shape avionics and aerospace systems.
  • Exposure to certification, customer engagement, and regulatory processes.
  • Relocation eligibility (as appropriate) — specific details depend on business unit and role level.
  • Potential benefits for hired applicants may include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability coverage, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, paid time off, parental leave, and other programs. Benefits vary by business unit and employee classification.
  • Opportunity to participate in short-term and/or long-term incentive programs, where applicable.
