What You’ll Do

As a Software Engineer I (Onsite) with our client in Cedar Rapids, IA, you’ll contribute to embedded avionics software used in commercial and military flight decks. You will join a multidisciplinary team building high-reliability systems that integrate software, hardware, and AI/ML capabilities for mission-critical aerospace applications.

  • Develop and optimize embedded flight‑software for safety‑critical avionics systems.
  • Write high-performance, deterministic code and participate in debugging and validation using simulation tools.
  • Integrate AI-assisted features such as intelligent sensor fusion, anomaly detection, and autonomous control logic.
  • Work with systems engineers, hardware teams, and flight‑test personnel to deliver integrated solutions that meet aviation safety and certification requirements.
  • Use oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, hardware debuggers, simulation, and hardware‑in‑the‑loop (HIL) environments for verification and troubleshooting.
  • Support flight-test operations, lab testing, and simulation runs to evaluate system performance under real-world conditions.
  • Follow secure coding practices and help ensure compliance with aviation standards such as DO-178.

What You’ll Learn

  • Hands‑on development and optimization of embedded flight software for commercial and military platforms.
  • Techniques for deterministic, high‑performance code and real‑time system debugging.
  • Collaboration across hardware, AI/ML, and systems engineering disciplines in an aerospace environment.
  • Implementation and validation of AI/ML features embedded onboard aircraft.
  • Practical experience with HIL, simulation tools, and flight‑test procedures.
  • Processes and documentation needed to support aviation safety and certification.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related STEM field completed by the start date.
  • Relevant experience can include on‑the‑job work, research, coursework, or project work demonstrating software engineering fundamentals.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Prior internship, co‑op, or relevant industry experience with aerospace or avionics teams.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills; ability to work effectively on cross‑functional teams.
  • Basic understanding of aircraft operations and flight‑test practices is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with simulation tools, HIL setups, and debugging hardware (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers) is a plus.

Location & Work Type

  • Location: Cedar Rapids, IA (Onsite)
  • Employment type: Full-time

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range (good‑faith estimate): 57,200 USD – 108,800 USD per year. Final offer will consider role, experience, location, education/training, and skills.
