What You’ll Do
This role supports a confidential client building hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and continuous-integration (CI) infrastructure for embedded products. You will:
- Design, develop, and maintain HIL test frameworks and CLI tooling using Python and Bash
- Build and operate large-scale physical test labs and self-hosted CI runners
- Debug flaky integration tests in production CI pipelines and improve test reliability
- Perform hardware/software debugging using tools such as logic analyzers and oscilloscopes
- Work on embedded target bring-up, firmware debugging, and JTAG-based workflows
- Maintain bare-metal Linux systems, kernel modules, udev rules, and systemd services
- Manage networking and device configuration for testbeds and CI hosts
- Collaborate with firmware, software, and test teams to scale CI/HIL across projects
Minimum Qualifications
- 2+ years experience working on embedded devices, test systems, or infrastructure
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field (BS or equivalent)
- Proficient in Python and Bash; experience with pytest and command-line tooling
- Strong Linux/systems administration skills (bare-metal Linux, systemd, kernel modules, udev)
- Practical experience with hardware/software debugging workflows
- Experience diagnosing flaky tests and stabilizing CI pipelines
Nice to Have
- CI/CD pipeline design experience (Buildkite, Jenkins, or similar); familiarity with self-hosted runners on physical machines
- Bazel and large-monorepo experience
- Familiarity with automotive bus tooling: CAN/CAN-FD, LIN, FlexRay, and SocketCAN
- Strong Nix / NixOS experience (flakes, modules, derivations, fixed-output fetches, VM tests)
- Experience managing lab inventory and remote power/serial management
Work Location & Schedule
- This role is based in Sunnyvale, CA. The confidential client expects employees to primarily work from the office; some flexibility (occasional remote work or schedule adjustments) may be allowed based on team needs.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States. The confidential client will comply with all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws.
Compensation & Benefits
- Compensation range provided by the confidential client for this role: $150,000 — $200,000 per year.
