What You’ll Do

This entry-level Software Engineer role focuses on database development, SQL/ETL work, and supporting data-driven projects for a Confidential Client in the IT services space. You will contribute to building, testing, and maintaining database solutions, run queries and reports, and help ensure data accuracy and performance.

• Develop, test, and maintain SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, views, and other database objects
• Write efficient, optimized SQL to retrieve and analyze data from large datasets
• Assist in designing and maintaining relational database schemas and data models
• Perform data extraction, transformation, validation, and loading (ETL) activities
• Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues and support migrations/integrations
• Monitor query performance and support database optimization efforts
• Produce reports and dashboards to support business and operational requirements
• Document database designs, scripts, and technical processes
• Collaborate with developers, data engineers, analysts, and DBAs
• Stay current with database technologies and best practices

Required Qualifications

• Practical knowledge of SQL programming and query optimization
• Familiarity with relational databases such as SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, or PostgreSQL
• Understanding of database concepts: tables, relationships, keys, indexes, views, and constraints
• Experience with joins, subqueries, Common Table Expressions (CTEs), and window functions
• Basic familiarity with stored procedures, triggers, and transactions
• Understanding of data quality, validation, and integrity principles
• Familiarity with version control systems (Git or similar)
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
• Good communication skills and ability to work on a team
• Willingness to relocate to Hawaii for this position

Preferred Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, or PostgreSQL
• Exposure to ETL tools such as SSIS, Informatica, Talend, or AWS Glue
• Knowledge of data warehousing (star/snowflake schemas)
• Experience with reporting/visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, SSRS)
• Basic programming skills in Python or another language
• Familiarity with cloud database services on AWS, Azure, or GCP
• Understanding of database performance tuning and monitoring
• Exposure to Agile or Scrum development practices

Location & Compensation

• Authoritative location: Hawaii (HI), United States — candidate must be open to relocation to Hawaii.
• Employment type: Full-time
• Compensation (provided by the client): $30.00 – $35.00 per hour

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field is preferred; equivalent experience or relevant certifications will be considered.
• This role is well suited for recent graduates or candidates with internship/project experience looking to grow in ETL/SQL/database development.
