Role overview

We are hiring a Full Stack Software Engineer to join a confidential client operating at the intersection of software, lab automation, and bioanalysis. This on-site, full-time role in Waltham, MA focuses on building and maintaining web applications and backend services that integrate with physical lab instruments and automated workflows. The role is appropriate for early-career engineers (associate level) up to Software Engineer level who are eager to learn and contribute to systems that accelerate drug development.


What You’ll Do

  • Develop, test, and maintain full-stack features using TypeScript/JavaScript (Node.js + React).
  • Design and optimize APIs and backend services to support lab workflows and complex data processing.
  • Build responsive, user-focused front-end interfaces for scientists and lab technicians.
  • Work with relational databases to ensure data integrity, accuracy, and accessibility.
  • Integrate software with lab instruments and automation hardware; learn lab operations to deliver practical solutions.
  • Participate in code reviews, write maintainable documented code, and contribute to unit and integration testing.
  • Debug and resolve technical issues in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or another science/engineering discipline with demonstrated software development experience.
  • 0–4 years of professional software development experience (entry to early-career).
  • Fundamental knowledge of TypeScript and JavaScript.
  • Exposure to React and Node.js (or similar frameworks).
  • Familiarity with SQL and relational database concepts.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and eagerness to learn domain-specific systems quickly.
  • Excellent communication skills and a desire to work on-site with cross-functional teams of scientists and engineers.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

  • Prior experience building interfaces or services for lab systems, instrumentation, or scientific workflows.
  • Familiarity with testing frameworks and CI/CD practices.
  • Experience with data modeling for scientific or laboratory data.
  • Experience with RESTful APIs, message queues, or event-driven architectures.
